Unlike earlier in the week, we made sure to get reservations for Cafe Pesto. If you arrive without reservations, you will wait. This time we were greeted promptly and, just as promptly, put onto the very comfy waiting sofas. Apparently the hostess here now also does table clearing and cleaning... read more

Several in our party ordered pasta and were dissatisfied. Shrimp in pasta tasted like it had recently been thawed. 2 people in our group were ill the next day. One person ordered wine and had to send it back.

We were disappointed with the range choices, quality of food, and range of options. The service was mediocre.

Been eating here for many years and I have never been disappointed. Good pizza and the fresh fish is always a great choice.

Cheers! Great drinks, meals, and ambience right at Kawaihae. Make reservations during busy season or on weekends, and watch the setting sun over Kawaihae Harbor.

We visit the Big Island once a year and always eat supper at Cafe Pesto several times. I like that one can get gourmet pizza or upscale food. I also like that one can order small portions of some entrees. I recommend the Volcano Mist Salad and the Tahitian vanilla ice cream. One does need a reservation in the evening.... More

The blue crab pizzette was good. The pasta dish I ordered was pretty bland. It's a strange ambiance....kind of like a quaint Italian joint meets Dennys. With going to try though.

We first ate at the Kawaihae Cafe Pesto the year after it opened and have been back every visit to the Big Island over the years. We had lunch there this afternoon and are headed back for dinner. It's still in the same place (only bigger), the service is still laid back and friendly, and the food is still very... More
