Still terrific after all these years

Even though they bill themselves as a "Mexican Kitchen," Padilla's is really one of the great New Mexican food restaurants in the state. Stopped by at end of our annual NM visit before flying back to Florida. After a week driving and dining throughout NW part of state, our tastebuds were getting pretty particular and discerning regarding quantity and quality of chilies and food preparation:)) Padilla's was not on our original list of places to visit but we are thankful we found this... I've eaten at Padilla's for 35 years - this is a family favorite. This is a family-owned, no-frills, FABULOUS family cooking. Authentic New Mexican cuisine, filling and tasty and extremely low priced. If you want to go where the locals go, come here. Sopapillas are the best I've ever had.

Not fancy but authentic and fun. The staff are friendly, the food is far better than any fast food you will find! I always, when looking for a Mexican restaurant ask a local where there is a place with an abuelita (little grandmother) in the back kitchen. This is that type of place. Sopapillas are the best- they are like... More

I LOVE Padillas! I have lived in Albuquerque over 20 years, and this is my favorite place for Mexican food. Be aware about the cash only. AND it closes at 7:45 pm, so you can't eat late. In New Mexico, sopaipillas are served with the meal, they are NOT dessert, so of course, they will be less hot if you... More

don't be fooled by the exterior and modest look of Padilla's, the food is outstanding and very reasonably priced. I had the chile relleno and sopapillas a la carte. My husband had the carne adovada plate which came with two sopapillas. Outstanding and delicious. The relleno crust was crispy and not soggy. The cheese filling was nicely melted and generous.... While visiting ABQ I met a local couple and asked them for recommendations on the best New Mexican food. They both agreed that for quality that this was one of their two top favorites (the other is Duran's Station). I hit them them both and they were beyond expectations. Fresh, delicious, and homemade. I will definitely be back when I... More

We ate lunch here on the recommendation of a friend. The restaurant is obviously a family owned local dining spot. You could easily tell that 70% of diners were locals, not tourists. Wife and I both had the basic chicken enchilada's with green chile, beans & rice. The portions were good and when I finished cleaning my plate I was... More

Was told this is the place to eat while in Albuquerque. Im a tough critique and this place was not hard to rate. The place doesn't take credit cards!!! Seriously?? what fine restaurant doesn't take credit cards? The food was mediocre at most, nothing I would ever go back for. They didn't even roll up my enchilada and they use... More
