As former New Mexican residents, we are always needing a chile fix when we visit Albuquerque. Barelas has become our go to place for Huevo Rancheros. We like the Deluxe version of this dish. The food is served up stove hot and plentiful. The chile is flavorful, but not much of a bite. You also get a flour tortilla that... More

I had carne asada, my wife had huevos rancheros deluxe. Great, great meals, reasonably priced and served by really nice people. We ate on the outdoor patio on a beautiful morning. You can't go wrong with breakfast here.

This restaurant has good menudo and serves chips and salsa. It is a popular restaurant and has memorabilia from New Mexico on the walls and a nice gift shop to visit for those looking for New Mexico souvenirs!

not fancy and just accross the street from a fast food drive through, but you should eat here. Great simple food- chile (chile sauce with posole), enchiladas, tacos and chile rellenos, but inexpensive with a capital I, quick service and pleasant decor with lots of vintage sign advertisements. Do be carefull - the sauces can be hot!

Continuing my drive on Route 66, I stopped in Albuquerque just to try this restaurant. I'm so happy I did. Arrived at 1:30pm and the restaurant was half full and didn't have to wait for a table. Great breakfast and lunch menu. Its called a coffee shop, so there's no fancy decor, just a little New Mexico theme and photos... More

This was my first time on ABQ and my hosts brought me here for breakfast. I had the Huevos rancheros. I like to think I have a higher tolerance for spicy food than I do haha but even this was a struggle. It was almost unvareable. Is suggest getting the sauce on the side if you're unsure. It was very... More

This neighborhood place has been wowing diners (including President Obama) for about 30 years. Go here if you want a 'real' NM food experience. The place is not open for dinner, but is packed at breakfast and lunch. You won't be disappointed. Food is great!

Hot hot food. Both in temp and in spice levels. Don't bother if you cannot take the heat. Crazy busy place on a Sunday morning but worth the wait. Tasty and filling. Did I mention Hot?

Had breakfast here during weekend visit to Albuqureque. Delicious green chili sause on huevo rancheros & breakfast burrito. Small diner feel with inexpensive, tasty food. Out of the way on 4th St. south of downtown. Recommend parking across the street.

Barelas is a small neighborhood restaurant that really brings in the locals and families. The breakfast crowd appears from nowhere and it is filled with regulars almost immediately. People are friendly and the service prompt. New Mexican food is special. When in Alb. you just have to start the day with a bowl of green. (no frijoles)
