South of downtown great place for breakfast or brunch has the feel of a turn-of-the-century road house. Renowned in the city..don't be surprised if you share your meal with a politician or celebrity .

If you're craving REAL red chile, and REAL carnitas, and REAL huevos rancheros, this is the place! Check their schedule before you go, or call to make sure they're open. You can park across the street in a lot. In warm weather, you can eat on the patio. Just great; we go every time we're in ABQ.

We had a very large family group, so we had to wait a while for food and all, but the food was delicious. Parking is practically non-existent in this "oldest part of town," but my husband said he loved the food and would go back for sure.

My brother told us about this restaurant! It will be on our destination list every time we go to Albuquerque! Food cooked as it should be, no need to add anything to the food except a fork! Amazing chili favors of New Mexico with portions and prices that are wonderful. We look forward to going back soon, with an ice... More

The best huevos rancheros ever. Good service and generous portions. No need to ask for a coffee refill. One of the best breakfast places I've ever been.

As far as New Mexican cuisine is concerned, this is pretty spot on. The menu is simple, full of things that any self-respecting NM food purveyor should be able to pull off. Everyone says the carne and eggs, as well as the huevos are good. I liked them, the chile was good, and the homemade tortilla was a nice plus.... More

This place represents a true New Mexican cuisine as it is very popular among locals. The meat is fresh, the chili's - both red and green sauce - are outstanding, the tortillas are homemade, menudo was tasty, in general, this was a pleasant experience. It is a local restaurant, off the beaten path to tourists, which offers a true taste... More

As former New Mexican residents, we are always needing a chile fix when we visit Albuquerque. Barelas has become our go to place for Huevo Rancheros. We like the Deluxe version of this dish. The food is served up stove hot and plentiful. The chile is flavorful, but not much of a bite. You also get a flour tortilla that... More

I had carne asada, my wife had huevos rancheros deluxe. Great, great meals, reasonably priced and served by really nice people. We ate on the outdoor patio on a beautiful morning. You can't go wrong with breakfast here.
