Not what we expected, but good

After a tiring day on the road, we wanted Mexican, and searched Trip Adviser for something close to our hotel. El Modelo seemed high on the list, so we headed over. We ordered the ribs, a special (pork) burrito, a stuffed sopapilla, and some guacamole. Although there are some outside tables, we like most patrons, carried our food out (and our order must have weighed 5 lb). The ribs and burrito were both fairly spicy, but had good flavor. I ordered the sopapilla based on reviews here and the recommendation of... More

WOW. I had Red Chile Ribs-awesome flavor, moist fall off the bone ribs with just the right amount of spice for lunch. They came smothered in red chile and accompanied by a few tortilla Chips. Others in my Take Out party had stuffed Sopapillas, Green Chile Stew, Burritos etc and it was all amazing, I cant wait to get back,... More

We went by someone's recommendation and we weren't disappointed! This place looks like a take-out place with some outdoor seating on the side of the restaurant. But I think most people came in, picked up food and ate them elsewhere. It was a bit chilly in the shade while we were there but we chose to sit outside anyway. The... More

If you want authentic Mexican / Hispanic food, go to el Modelos! We had the no 1 combo which was a very large potion...8 lbs. the sauce is integrated into the dishes... Tamale had great thick shell, very good meat sauce... Chip good as well as tamale, enchilada and beef shank... And oh yea came with 2 large sopapillas.... Two... More

This place is insane and a must! You're not a true New Mexican if you've not eaten here. My mouth is watering right now just thinking about it!

Had the stuffed sopapilla for lunch, loaded with beef and cheese. Wonderful. You only need one, they are a lot of food. There is no indoor seating, only a courtyard with some tables. The folks taking orders where not used to helping new people. Very authentic place, I recommend you visit.

Went here with family while on vacation in abq. Its definitely off the beaten path and looks like something that wld be on diners drive-ins and dives. 3 of us got the tamale plate which is supposed to come with beans and rice but as far as I could tell, did not. I cant say that i really missed them... More

After a afternoon hike on the bosque trail, my teen daughter and I decided to try El Modelo. It has been around for ages, and just the building and location hints at "something different", "go local". It is takeaway with outside tables located north and south of the building. I had a stuffed sopapilla and my daughter had cheese enchilada... More

I had tried to eat at El Modelo the last time I was in Albuquerque but I picked the one night when they are closed. I was luckier this time. Easy to get to, right across the street from Old Town Albuquerque. Typical menu items but very tasty and well made. This just added to the problem I have when... More
