Had the stuffed sopapilla for lunch, loaded with beef and cheese. Wonderful. You only need one, they are a lot of food. There is no indoor seating, only a courtyard with some tables. The folks taking orders where not used to helping new people. Very authentic place, I recommend you visit.

Went here with family while on vacation in abq. Its definitely off the beaten path and looks like something that wld be on diners drive-ins and dives. 3 of us got the tamale plate which is supposed to come with beans and rice but as far as I could tell, did not. I cant say that i really missed them... More

After a afternoon hike on the bosque trail, my teen daughter and I decided to try El Modelo. It has been around for ages, and just the building and location hints at "something different", "go local". It is takeaway with outside tables located north and south of the building. I had a stuffed sopapilla and my daughter had cheese enchilada... More

I had tried to eat at El Modelo the last time I was in Albuquerque but I picked the one night when they are closed. I was luckier this time. Easy to get to, right across the street from Old Town Albuquerque. Typical menu items but very tasty and well made. This just added to the problem I have when... More

I love this joint. Been there 11 times. The Huevos Rancheros are so good, that I have not tried anything else. Not sure, but it seems like I'm eating 3 pounds of food....Huevos, beans, pork, lettuce, green chili and tortillas. You will be satiated. And the prices represent a great value.

I've eaten their food many times. It's cheap, tasty, but way too hot. Sorry. Time to get an order varies considerably.

Passing through New Mexico on our way home, we stayed at a hotel close to the interstate. We checked our El Modelo on TripAdvisor and Yelp and ratings were about 4 out of 5. It is located is a weird part of town – they close at 7 so it’s still daylight – LOL. It’s take out so that worked... More

Honest, authentic Mexican food, at a very affordable price. We had stuffed sopaipillas, enchiladas, and chile rellenos. Large portions. El Modelo is designed for take-out, but, have a nice picnic area. We are there and enjoyed it. I'll definitely return for more.

Did someone say extra grande portions? Holy Moley do they load you down with some food here! This place is very old school and has been around since forever (1929, actually). There's no indoor seating, but there is a pleasant grassy area right next door with some picnic tables, and additional seating out by the parking lot. For this reason,... More
