A little slice of heaven

We were in search of somewhere to get dinner in Petersburg on a Sunday night. Going down the TA listing, I came across King's Barbecue. Open since 1956, you would expect it to be good in order to remain open that long. No lie, it was. My husband and I both got the sliced pork sandwiches. He got... read more

Last of the King's Barbecues which were in Petersburg, Colonial Heights and Richmond. Great barbecue, old school 1950's restaurant. Barbecue was excellent. I really miss the one in Colonial Heights.

Some of the best BBQ in Virginia! During season, they also offer fried oysters, which are less expensive than elsewhere but delicious. The BBQ plate is huge; sandwich platters are also available. The atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired - the "decor" hasn't been updated in 50 years (I know - I've eaten there off-and-on for 50 years!). This... More

This was a below par BBQ place. Servers were not very attentive ie. water, napkins etc..Butter milk fried chicken was good but crust was tasteless, BBQ beans could have come from a can potatoe pie (mashed potatoes fried into a pattie)was what it was. Cole slaw was good, NC style. And to top it off they ran out of Pecan pie... More

This is a great place for a great meal after a day of wandering the sights. It's casual and family friendly with quick service and good food. The food was hot and fresh. I'm not a big potato salad fan, but King's was quite good. The barbecue is more smoked than what I am used to but had a wonderful... More

I've had BBQ from all over the country and they have the best and most consistent I've found. Most places all you can taste is the sauce. At Kings you don't need it. Try the sliced pork BBQ and you will see for yourself. The beef is good too. If a BBQ restaurant does offer sliced pork I have found... More

Found this restaurant by accident. Stopped in for lunch and ordered the minced BBQ, green beans and coleslaw. All were good but rather forgettable. I was expecting more smoke flavor in the meat when I entered the building and you can smell the smokey pork. Not a bad meal by any means. just was expecting more flavor.

My family had a terrific barbecue dinner there the other day. Wonderful, wonderful , wonderful. Their vinegar based barbecue sauce is to die for. Not too spicy - just right. If you like good old country barbecue this is the place!

During a road trip to the western part of Virginia, we stopped at King's, as it appeared to be busy (a good sign) and we were slightly less than half way to our destination. We had the "King's Sampler", consisting of BBQ beef, pork and chicken with a salad. The salad was a bland assortment of onion, iceberg lettuce and... More

This restaurant is such a definitive, old-style, barbeque establishment. Upon entering, you are nicely told to sit wherever you would like. They have wait staff that have been there for over 40 years and they could write a book on how to wait a table. While perusing the menu, you can hear the distinctive chop, chopping of the meat being... More
