The Dixie is a landmark breakfast and lunch establishment in the heart of Old Towne Petersburg since the 1920s and in it's current location since 1939. It has seen several owners over the years and remains a local favorite. We specialize in traditional southern cuisine. Our menu items include our famous Dixie Dog which is a red hot dog with mustard, onions and our tasty chili sauce. We also serve fried Salt Herring, Salmon Croquettes, Meatloaf, Chicken & Dumplings, made from scratch Pimento Cheese, and Chicken Salad. We offer a variety of sandwiches, barbeque, burgers and hot-plate specials that change daily.

Over the course of a weekend, we ate there TWICE--and would have gone the third time had they been open on Sundays (which they are not). Visit #1 was an early lunch: I had a hot dog topped with their legendary pimento cheese. Sounds terrible, I know, but it was WONDERFUL. So were the onion rings. Hubby had a fried... More

Wanted to return to The Alibi this AM to try more of their unusual breakfast fare, but they don't open until 11 AM on Saturdays. Across the street is a small restaurant I always said I would try and today was the day. Dixie is small, but not cramped. A good number of tables and a counter with 10 or... More

I don't know why, but I like this little place. Country cooking, I like going for breakfast. There are often specials, and some sound downright kookie [in a good way!]. It's the kind of place where eventually, they'll know your name.

Hot dogs were great!! Cute little restaurant. Good service every time we go there. Love the old pictures and menus on the wall. Feels like a trip to the past.

This charming restaurant has been in continuous operation for 75 years, and the memorabilia within attests to its staying power as a local institution. We stopped here as an alternative to roadside fast foods en route to North Carolina. It is conveniently located 5 minutes off of I95, in the historic downtown area. We had one hungry 4 year old,... Great little diner that's been around since the '20s but recently renovated to give the feel but not the wear of a restaurant that old. I had banana pancakes and they were just like my Cilla used to make me when I was little. Servers have been there a while a know what service is. You can't go wrong here.

Fast service, inexpensive, great food and the best chili dogs around. What more could you ask for? Ask for the slaw dog, onion rings and sweet tea.

My husband and I look for good, local restaurants on our travels and were delighted to find the Dixie Restaurant. We had always driven through Petersburg in route to DC, but had never visited the town. We were heartsick to see another dying American town, but I digress... That said, you will find some good, southern home cooking at Dixie's,... More

This is a great place for breakfast or lunch. They are not open for dinner. They serve great southern cooking. I have eaten both breakfast and lunch there and enjoyed both meals. When Steven Spielberg was in Petersburg filming "Lincoln" he was there a few times for meals. They therefore serve a burger called the Spielburger. Meg Ryan was there... More
