The Dixie is a landmark breakfast and lunch establishment in the heart of Old Towne Petersburg since the 1920s and in it's current location since 1939. It has seen several owners over the years and remains a local favorite. We specialize in traditional southern cuisine. Our menu items include our famous Dixie Dog which is a red hot dog with mustard, onions and our tasty chili sauce. We also serve fried Salt Herring, Salmon Croquettes, Meatloaf, Chicken & Dumplings, made from scratch Pimento Cheese, and Chicken Salad. We offer a variety of sandwiches, barbeque, burgers and hot-plate specials that change daily.

I love diners and it probably started when I was a kid and went to the Dixie. Although the owners have changed since the early 1960's, the appeal has not. They still have the delicious hot dogs, sweet tea and friendly staff. Who would not love a place that made my favorite special lunch on my birthday?!

Try the Dixie dogs. My family eat here about twice a month. Everyone is full of good ol’ southern hospitality. The food is consistently good and made to order.

My wife and I ate here on April 16, 2015. The food was good and our server, Millie, was pleasant. I enjoyed meeting Bobby, one of the busers, who has worked there for 30 years. Interesting place.

I use to eat at this Restaurant when I was young. Since the new owners have taken over I feel at home again. The food is always above average and the feel is Down Home Friendly. When I am in the area this is the place to eat. You will not be sorry. Oh yes, you have to try the... More

I stopped in with my son while my fiancé was a part of the reenactment for the Petersburg half marathon and 5k. The service was outstanding!! Everyone was so warm and friendly and attentive! The food was excellent and being from New England originally the home fries were different than I am used to but in the most excellent of... More

We stayed in Petersburg overnight when I ran the inaugural half marathon there. We ate lunch at the Dixie Restaurant. All servers were very friendly. The cheeseburger was very good, with a hand formed patty. When I asked if I could have a different type of cheese, I was told I could have it any way I liked. The back... More

En route to North Carolina for a college reunion, I spent a night in Petersburg and had breakfast at Dixie Restaurant the following morning. This place is located in the heart of Petersburg's historic district. In my mind I could envision colonial and Civil War settings. Although not as old, the restaurant evoked images of early 20th century charm. I... More

Stopped in for lunch after hearing about the place from some friends. Wow...what a step back in time. The place has been operating since the 1930's. Hubby got two Reuben dogs (daily special) and I got the fried catfish sandwich. Bread pudding for desert. The prices are extremely reasonable. This is a "must stop" when in the Petersburg or Tri-cities... More

Let's start with the customer service..OUTSTANDING! So very friendly and attentive the entire visit. Ordered the catfish sandwich, hotdog, collards, French fries and two soft drinks (crushed ice). All the food came out hot and at the same time!! Impressive! To top that off..it was delicious!!! Ordered strawberry shortcake for dessert and that too, was fantastic. Would go again and... More
