The Dixie is a landmark breakfast and lunch establishment in the heart of Old Towne Petersburg since the 1920s and in it's current location since 1939. It has seen several owners over the years and remains a local favorite. We specialize in traditional southern cuisine. Our menu items include our famous Dixie Dog which is a red hot dog with mustard, onions and our tasty chili sauce. We also serve fried Salt Herring, Salmon Croquettes, Meatloaf, Chicken & Dumplings, made from scratch Pimento Cheese, and Chicken Salad. We offer a variety of sandwiches, barbeque, burgers and hot-plate specials that change daily.

Great owners = great business

Reasonable. Not fancy, but good, home cooking. Hot dogs are good and quick. Nice people run the place, too.

I haven't had a meal here I didn't love, the staff is very friendly, the turn around is fast, and the prices are very good. You must try this place if you haven't before!

Nothing fancy about this place, but the sandwiches and burgers are very good. Perfect for lunch after visiting historic spots in Petersburg. Prices are more than reasonable. It also seems to be a regular spot for the town's citizens. It's close to Seige Museum, Centre Hill mansion, and Old Blandford Church and cemetery.

Dixie still has that classic lunch spot feel. The restaurant and the staff both have home town charm and take pride in being a staple of the community. If you have 30 minutes for lunch, this is a great spot to grab a bite to eat.

Recommended by a car salesman, and he did not steer us wrong. Dixie is located in old town Petersburg surrounded by history. We arrived shortly after opening and ordered biscuits and gravy and the Dixie scramble. Both arrived promptly, hot and tasty. Scramble was light and fluffy. Walking into the Dixie one can feel the friendliness. As we ate, on... More

We eat here occasionally for breakfast and decided to try lunch for my hubby's birthday. Yes, it's diner fare, but it's good and his chicken and dumplings looked and tasted homemade as they should. Coffee's fantastic, as is their sweet tea. Service is great and fast and they greet you upon arrival. A lot of locals frequent this place. It's... More

I was greeted warmly upon arrival, they were busy, waitress was quick to get my coffee and water, food came out fast and hot, I love this place, very clean, great attitudes from everyone working there and consistent, good quality food. I will definitely be a regular when I am down this way.

We arrived the other day at the crack of 7am and were warmly greeted and seated. We had the whole place to ourselves. The coffee was good and hot. My wife ordered a vegetable omelet, which looked good but my wife said otherwise. I ordered the House made scrapple with eggs over easy. The scrapple had very little flavor and... More

If you want an old school family owned diner with good food this is it. I've eaten here three times and was happy every time. Nothing fancy just straight up good breakfast

I have eaten here twice, and both times the food was fine. I went there today (7/8/15) after a job interview in Colonial Heights and had the Appomattox, a ham and cheddar cheese omelet. The omelet was big and thin and quite tasty. The grits were fine, too. I love old school diners, and this place qualifies. Old Town Petersburg... More
