We stayed in Petersburg overnight when I ran the inaugural half marathon there. We ate lunch at the Dixie Restaurant. All servers were very friendly. The cheeseburger was very good, with a hand formed patty. When I asked if I could have a different type of cheese, I was told I could have it any way I liked. The back... More

En route to North Carolina for a college reunion, I spent a night in Petersburg and had breakfast at Dixie Restaurant the following morning. This place is located in the heart of Petersburg's historic district. In my mind I could envision colonial and Civil War settings. Although not as old, the restaurant evoked images of early 20th century charm. I... More

Stopped in for lunch after hearing about the place from some friends. Wow...what a step back in time. The place has been operating since the 1930's. Hubby got two Reuben dogs (daily special) and I got the fried catfish sandwich. Bread pudding for desert. The prices are extremely reasonable. This is a "must stop" when in the Petersburg or Tri-cities... More

Let's start with the customer service..OUTSTANDING! So very friendly and attentive the entire visit. Ordered the catfish sandwich, hotdog, collards, French fries and two soft drinks (crushed ice). All the food came out hot and at the same time!! Impressive! To top that off..it was delicious!!! Ordered strawberry shortcake for dessert and that too, was fantastic. Would go again and... More

Over the course of a weekend, we ate there TWICE--and would have gone the third time had they been open on Sundays (which they are not). Visit #1 was an early lunch: I had a hot dog topped with their legendary pimento cheese. Sounds terrible, I know, but it was WONDERFUL. So were the onion rings. Hubby had a fried... More

Wanted to return to The Alibi this AM to try more of their unusual breakfast fare, but they don't open until 11 AM on Saturdays. Across the street is a small restaurant I always said I would try and today was the day. Dixie is small, but not cramped. A good number of tables and a counter with 10 or... More

I don't know why, but I like this little place. Country cooking, I like going for breakfast. There are often specials, and some sound downright kookie [in a good way!]. It's the kind of place where eventually, they'll know your name.

Hot dogs were great!! Cute little restaurant. Good service every time we go there. Love the old pictures and menus on the wall. Feels like a trip to the past.

This charming restaurant has been in continuous operation for 75 years, and the memorabilia within attests to its staying power as a local institution. We stopped here as an alternative to roadside fast foods en route to North Carolina. It is conveniently located 5 minutes off of I95, in the historic downtown area. We had one hungry 4 year old,...
