Decent Meal and a Decent Value

Good food, fair prices. It's in a shopping center, so there are a lot of shops nearby, if you like that. Decor was Utah-style. Not really indicative of an Irish pub. Wait staff was nice and knew the menu and drink selections. Restaurant was clean and well maintained.

MacCools had actual Irish items on the menu, a VERY friendly staff, great beer selection, and the food was excellent. Wagyu steaks were outstanding and a real value. Shepard's pie was creative and tasty, and Guiness Stew met the mark.

My husband has been here for lunch 5 or 6 times, and really liked it. We went for dinner on 7-21-15. We ordered a reuben. The meat was so tough and dry that we literally could not bite it. The service is terrible. There were about 4 people that came to our table, all with a specific job. The waiter... More

Not sure about some of the recent reviews. Maybe it was an off day for the staff, but I've eaten here at least a dozen times in the last year while in town for business. The staff is always nice, and the food is always fresh. I've never had a meal that I didn't like. Menu is quite varied. Took... More

Good service is the only good thing. The food was gross! I ordered the mussels which came with 13 tiny mussels, a tomato broth and a piece of bread for $8.99...not a good value for me. The other food was frankly gross. No quality in ingredients or presentation. The beer selection was decent. I had the watermelon Martini and could... More

For an Irish pub, MacCools offers a tasty, mellow lasagne -- perfect comfort food for a traveler. My husband wasn't so pleased with his corned beef and cabbage. We sat outdoors in a quiet side patio, appreciated excellent service and relaxed after a busy travel day.

Now the atmosphere is pure Irish pub, with fun decor. Our waiter was a real personality, and very efficient, with it. The food was really down-home GOOD. We had Irish stew, lamb sandwiches, roast lamb, and a hefty burger--all very tasty. We enjoyed the appetizers, and sampled several--all very appetizing. We'll go back when we're up at the zoo, gardens,... More

Business travel took me to Salt Lake - didn't realize most places close by 9 PM. Work took till after 9, so went to MacCool's being they were open till 10:00. Had Ruben (good, though meat was a bit gristly) with fries - which was a mix of russet and sweet potato. Offered Russian dressing as option for fries -... More

First visit: stopped for some beers. Obnoxious staff advise us at the door that unless we're here to eat, then we cannot drink. Ok - it's Utah. But hello stupid-oh's . . . that doesn't mean I must eat a 3 course meal just to get a beer. Due to the attitude, we just bounced. Second visit: today. stopped for... More

The location was great. Honestly...terrible food. How do mess up corn beef and cabbage??? Has a list of beers...but only had a few available and we got 2 in bottles that were over a year old. Come on....we should have known since we were the only people in the whole place.
