We wandered over to this place from the Homewood Suites, just across the road, one day last week whilst on holiday in SLC. It was about 8pm, prime dinner time for us but it's easy to forget Americans eat much earlier than us - the place was still open but was definitely not far from closing. Anyway, it's located in... I’ve been there many a’time … at least once every ski trip … so that makes it close to 15 times or so. It’s in the old Rio Grande Terminal, which has a certain charm. The menu is way better than all of those “fast food” places … consistent with what I get in my home-town Mexican Restaurants that I... More

The setting in the old Rio Grande Station is great. The food is usually really good. Try the pork chimichanga. The service has been pretty slow as of late.

Our friends absolutely love this place! After going with them once we swore we wouldn't go again, but got roped into it a second time. I decided to order what my friend gets, since he loves it so much... A shrimp enchilada (what was I thinking!). It was a surprise... I did not expect celery and cocktail sauce in a... More

In a historic Rio Grande train station, as such, has not changed since opening when it had the best Mexican in SLC, and still has the best Carnitas in the West.

Entering the Rio Grand Cafe is like taking a time travel trip back to 1940. The cafe is in the former Rio Grande Train station and your mood goes to music of the Chattanooga cho-cho. The place is beautifully kept and has seats at both the nostalgic counter and at friendly cafe tables with good wait staff. Imagine original logos... More

Very good Mexican food in the historic Denver and Rio Grande Western Railway former passenger station. If you like large portions of Mexican food, this is a place to visit while in SLC. Decided to eat here on our last night in Salt Lake as it was close to our hotel. The menu, service and quality of food exceeded our expectations as the cafe is rather tucked away compared to others. A lovely spot to sit outside to eat and a relaxed atmosphere with no pressure to rush as at many places. The... More

First, it always irks me when a restaurant has a "pint" listed on the menu but serves a 12oz pour. They never seem to understand what a pint means. I even asked beforehand and the waitress said "it's one of those over there". Rio Grande does this too; listing a pint but serving 12 ozs. Besides that the food was... More
