A Salt Lake Classic

I hadn't been here in a long time and immediately wondered why. They have good food and drinks in a fun and different atmosphere. It's conveniently located for many downtown events. The restaurant is near the homeless shelter but fear not. The one downer is they charge for chips & salsa... read more

The Rio Grand Cafe has been our family favorite for decades! The atmosphere and friendly staff make it a great restaurant, but the incredible food is what keeps us coming back. We plough through bowls of salsa every time we go (we used to carry it with us on the plane back to Boston!) and the cheese they use is... More

You may not think Mexican when you see the Rio Grande Cafe, but it's one of the better places around. Loved the way they do cheese enchiladas.

I am a big train enthusiast and have looked at the rio grande's menu and it just breaks my heart to see such a cafe serving mexican. Sorry fellow mexican food enthusiasts but lunch counters usually served sandwiches, soups and the likes... The actual train car served oysters, sirloin steak, vienna bread. I like nostalgia, the big busy central stations of... More

Some great Mexican food. Fun to go when you can eat outside. Inside decorated very eclectic. Never had a bad meal. A fun place to take the kids as well.

I live downtown SLC and my aunt, who was visiting, had heard good things about this restaurant near Pioneer Park, which I had never been to. I like trying new places, so it was a go. There was 7 people in our party. The building is cool. It's historic and it is neat that they are still using it. On... More

This restaurant was so pleasant. It was a nice summer evening and we sat indoors but right by the open door so we had a nice breeze but were not too hot. Our waiter was fantastic - I wish I could remember his name - and very funny. The dining room is the old waiting room at a train station... More

During an overnight in Salt Lake City decided that Mexican is what I needed. I visited this restaurant years ago and had favorable memories. I had the pork enchilada with red sauce per the recommendation from our waiter. I must say this was a very good meal and the portion was large enough for two people. The service was excellent... If you are looking for good Mexican food this place never fails. I went there for lunch with my co workers. We were seated immediately even though it was very busy. Our drink orders were taken within a minute or two. Chips and salsa was at the table soon after. Our orders taken and food was at our table in... More

A great room with a lively juke box in an amazing rail road station. The menu is what I expect from good quality Cali Mex restaurants. I met friends there every Friday night for most of the 90's and it has not changed a bit.
