First, it always irks me when a restaurant has a "pint" listed on the menu but serves a 12oz pour. They never seem to understand what a pint means. I even asked beforehand and the waitress said "it's one of those over there". Rio Grande does this too; listing a pint but serving 12 ozs. Besides that the food was... More

We have been visiting this interesting restaurant since it opened in the old Rio Grande Railroad Depot in the mid-1970s. For a long time it was our go-to place for good Mexican food, an efficient and interesting waitstaff, a great jukebox, and good drinks. Portions used to be large and prices small--now it is the other way around. Recently four... More

I was with two colleagues who both live in the area. One claimed this was the best Mexican restaurant in town, the other claimed it was another more well known restaurant a little ways away. We settled on this one because it was walking distance from my hotel. I had high expectations since at least one of us said it... More

Stopped off for early dinner after dropping family member at airport. Sketchy neighborhood but neat building (old train station). Hostess wanted to seat us next to large birthday group with yelling kids. We asked for another section and was given a very rude look. I asked if this was a problem as most of the restaurant was empty. She stated... More

We parked in front of restaurant and there were used needles in the gutter. Once we were inside, the surroundings were much better. The train on the ceiling with a woman folded into a taco kind of says it all. The food was fine - MIL liked the flan. I had the carnitas- which was moist and tasty.

The best part of the Rio Grande Cafe is the nostalgic atmosphere of the old rail station. Our waitress was very attentive and made sure our chips and salsa bowls were always full. She was also good at drink refills. The food was good, not too spicy, but enough flavor to satisfy our Mexican cravings. Take time to visit the... More

Rio Grande delivers again..from the bean dip to the smothered burritos..this place is great..only suggestion is to get the jukebox on auto play and the train should NEVER stop running..it's a hit for the regulars and those visiting for the first time

I have dined here many times over the years. I don't eat meat, is I often order an entree and have them hold the meat and substitute black beans. When I do this at other restaurants, about half the time, I get the meat anyway and have to send it back. The Rio Grande always gets it right. I love... More

This is one of those "go to" places that locals head for when they want Mexican fare and margaritas, and go back time and time again. Admittedly not the most authentic nor even the best, but always good, comfortable with old music playing on the juke box, and a nice place to hang with friends and family.

I was thinking when we went here that it was going to be really good Mexican food, I was wrong. The flavor of the food was not there at all, the salsa tastes like it was out of the can. There are way better Mexican places than this one.
