Description: The Copper Onion is one of the new additions to the growing Utah foodie scene. Former NYC chef (and native Utahan) Ryan Lowder now brings his personal take on New American cuisine to his own kitchen with an approach inspired by his passion for Utah’s outstanding farmstead ingredients and his experience as a chef cooking his way through Barcelona, NYC and South America. The Copper Onion serves a wide array of vegetable side dishes and a menu designed to explore and share, with plates such as Ricotta dumplings with lemon, sage and brown butter and Braised Pork Belly with shaved Brussels sprouts and pickled celeriac. Entrees include Fresh house-made papparedelle with lamb ragout and Duck Confit with butternut squash and roasted mushroom caps. An insistent focus on the freshest and best is paramount; sausages and burgers are ground daily, bread is baked and ice cream is made in house, offering casual diners an exceptional experience at affordable prices.

Great food. Monday night and the place was packed. Had the meat loaf, one guest had the beef stroganoff the other the trout. All were fantastic. Vince our waiter recommend a chard that was right on the money as a recommendation. Prices were reasonable. Would recommend this place to everyone.

During our three day stay in the area, we had dinner here on arrival from the airport and lunch two days later. I strongly recommend reservations fro dinner. We were glad we had them as there were several people waiting for a table when we arrived. We were promptly seated. We shared the pork belly appetizer - wonderful - and... More

Our visit was satisfying but nothing out of the ordinary, contrary to our expectations. It aspires to be an out-of-the-ordinary upscale eating establishment and its menu and prices reflect that, but to us it doesn't measure up. The food is good and well presented, but was not really special, and the place is noisy and the ambience not what we... More

Read about the copper onion burger in the Salt Lake Mag and had to try it. It was as described, delicious!

Quite simply one of the best overall dining experiences I have had in the USA. Thanks largely to our incredible waiter, we fashioned a European style dinner - 3.5 hours of culinary magic. We started with waiter selected antipasti - mouth watering. Next up, a variety of pasta once again chosen by our waiter at our behest - delicious. Third,... More

The food was good but nothing out of the ordinary. The food arrived very fast. Which would have been great if we had been in a rush. We both had pasta dishes. Might go back and try something else.

I am a regular at Copper Onion and eat there at least once a week for lunch. Dan the saucier is always coming up with fun lunch specials and overall the good is terrific for the price point. I've scoured the menu and rarely been disappointed by their great seasonal fare (the lunch pasta special is always great) and awesome... More

I called ahead, but the answering machine was incorrect on the serving hours. (The place is closed between 3 and 5 p.m.) However, we waited around until 5, and we fairly promptly seated. Our server was a good sport about us just having a snack at the bar overlooking the kitchen. Once again, the charcuterie plate (your choice of cheeses... More

Wine Enthusiast had an article on 5 unlikely foodie towns, and featured this restaurant. I made reservations for 11.30 am and got there early, to find several people already in line. By 11.40 the place was hopping, fairly noisy but not too hard to make conversation. The things that leapt out at me off the menu were the beet, caper... More

We had time to kill before a Saturday night flight. We arrived at 5:15 and the place was already quite busy. The inside was loud, but we wanted to sit on the patio anyhow, so we were lucky. Our server was quite pleasant and knowledgeable. A smoked Manhattan was a great starter cocktail, while the Spanish Tickler was mediocre. The... More
