The Copper Onion is one of the new additions to the growing Utah foodie scene. Former NYC chef (and native Utahan) Ryan Lowder now brings his personal take on New American cuisine to his own kitchen with an approach inspired by his passion for Utah’s outstanding farmstead ingredients and his experience as a chef cooking his way through Barcelona, NYC and South America. The Copper Onion serves a wide array of vegetable side dishes and a menu designed to explore and share, with plates such as Ricotta dumplings with lemon, sage and brown butter and Braised Pork Belly with shaved Brussels sprouts and pickled celeriac. Entrees include Fresh house-made papparedelle with lamb ragout and Duck Confit with butternut squash and roasted mushroom caps. An insistent focus on the freshest and best is paramount; sausages and burgers are ground daily, bread is baked and ice cream is made in house, offering casual diners an exceptional experience at affordable prices.

Delicious, Pricey and Noisy

I understand it's hard to get a reservation here because the restaurant is so popular. A friend of ours got a reservation for 6 of us. Food was excellent but expensive. Service was very good. It was very noisy, however, and we found it difficult to have a conversation over dinner.

The food and atmosphere of The Copper Onion is fantastic. Hamburger, Brussels sprouts, carbonara, strogenoff, increadible. The problem we had was the service. I ordered a coke my wife did not. Several times during the night my wife took a sip of my coke. The waitress was so bugged by this. Right before we got our bill the waitress brought... More

We get there and there is a couple ahead of us. She asked us if sitting outside was ok. It was a beautiful night and we agreed. She told us to wait a minute while she sat the other couple. We waited 15 minutes while other people were seated. We asked her and she just said give me a minute... More

Very crowded and noisy, but the service was great, the food couldn't have been better and we loved the experience. We found this restaurant on Trip Advisor and were so happy that we did.

We went here just after my graduation. It was a good sized group and we were squished into a corner but the food was great. We didn't mind the small area. The place can be a little dark but my friend and I ordered a salad and a burger and than split it in half. It was delicious.

Way over rated. All the food was room temperature and very small portions. Had to share table with others, I couldn't believe this would happen. You eat at a picnic table in a very noise environment. Prices are extravagant. If this is the best SLC has to offer, eat at home, or pack a lunch.

Good Burgers. Unique setting. Waitstaff very nice and helpful. Prices were average for a meal. The Bar was busy and had all the normal offerings.

Second visit to Copper Onion, and once again it did not disappoint. Had an early reservation but the place was already heaving. I liken it to a 21st century diner - no booths but a large counter (bar), the tables a bit crammed together, the wait staff hard working and friendly, the arrival of the food very fast, perhaps too... Visited by myself, and was seated at the bar by the door. Received excellent attention from the waiter and staff. Don't recommend if you need a little extra room to stretch out, though.

Loved everything about this place--great drinks, wines and a to die for cheese plate of really interesting unique cheeses. But the best of all was Mary's Skillet Chicken (not sure of complete name) It was half a small organic chicken roasted til crisp in some kind of au just with grilled veggies. From the first bite to the last it... More
