The Copper Onion is one of the new additions to the growing Utah foodie scene. Former NYC chef (and native Utahan) Ryan Lowder now brings his personal take on New American cuisine to his own kitchen with an approach inspired by his passion for Utah’s outstanding farmstead ingredients and his experience as a chef cooking his way through Barcelona, NYC and South America. The Copper Onion serves a wide array of vegetable side dishes and a menu designed to explore and share, with plates such as Ricotta dumplings with lemon, sage and brown butter and Braised Pork Belly with shaved Brussels sprouts and pickled celeriac. Entrees include Fresh house-made papparedelle with lamb ragout and Duck Confit with butternut squash and roasted mushroom caps. An insistent focus on the freshest and best is paramount; sausages and burgers are ground daily, bread is baked and ice cream is made in house, offering casual diners an exceptional experience at affordable prices.

Super Food in a casual but interesting environment.

We ate here twice, and enjoyed it very much each time. There is an adult, casual atmosphere close in downtown Salt Lake. It is convenient to a movie theater as well as to offices and shops making it a very busy place at lunch time. I can recommend the Fish and Chips highly.

The food definitely lives up to the hype. I was slightly disappointed that the vibe is as casual as it is, considering the price of the food. My husband and I dressed up for our date and felt out of place. Extremely busy, definitely get a reservation.

I have eaten at restaurants all over the world. This restaurant is one of the best places I've been. We ordered different entrees and apps for the party of 6 we had. We essentially ate everything family style because everything we had ordered was that good...we wanted to share! I was impressed with every dish we tried. I will be... More

We had brunch here on Mother's Day. Even though the place was packed, our server (I think his name was Brent - young man with a mohawk coif) made us feel like we were the only guests there -he was so attentive and friendly. We got the beef sandwich au jus - you dip the sandwich into the side dish... More

The Copper Onion has been on my list of "must eats" for several months. My brother in law was in town for business and I grabbed the opportunity and made a reservation for 3 people at 7:30 PM. My husband and I arrived around 7:15 and checked in with the hostess. She looked up the reservation and then informed us... More

I'd heard fantastic things about the Copper Onion, but it was probably what I hadn't heard that let me down. I met two friends there for lunch on a weekday, not realizing reservations are recommended (rare for lunch in SLC, esp with only a party of 3). The hostess looked a little miffed we didn't know that (gee, sorry) and... More

The 1/4 cauliflower appetizer was fantastic. Nice to try a new dish. The Beef stroganoff was probably some of the best I have ever had. If you go during nice weather, sit outside. The interior is an industrial style, clean. Wish we went back here for dinner on our last night instead of trying a different restaurant.

I am a local in SLC and Copper Onion is on my list of top three restaurants. We went for Mother's Day brunch and it was excellent again! You can't go wrong with the burger, it's probably the best burger in the city, which my daughter ordered. I had the eggs benedict, and my husband had steak and eggs. We... More

eaten here twice, and the food is quite good. just a few things that were less than perfect. while my appetizer and main course were both delicious. they were also saltier than I prefer. my dining companion had the same reaction. I rarely if ever add sale to my food, and I would much prefer the option to salt-to-taste. just... More
