It may be tucked into a parking lot in front of a mall yet Kathmandu brings an authentic experience that is difficult to find in the Mountain West. The menu is made of Nepali and Indian dishes (many, probably most) vegetarian. The food is simple and delicious, service courteous and fast. This is a place where you can;t go wrong.

The staff was very polite and the food was excellent. I especially liked that the food was spicy. A lot of places dumb the spice down, as in "hot" is barely any bite. (Maybe "Americanize" is the word I'm looking for? :P) I ordered a medium spice since this was my first visit and it was perfect for me. Spicy,... More

While visiting Salt Lake City for business, I sought out the best local restaurants. As a die-hard fan of Indian and Nepalese dishes, I was excited to learn about The Kathmandu. There are two locations in Salt Lake City so I decided to visit the one at 212 S. 700 E. After walking several miles to the restaurant, I had... More

Super food and service friendly people no wonder they were voted best in Salt Lake for 25 years. Best naan I ever had.

We finally tried this humble restaurant located in a understated strip mall and was surprised to discover really good food. The restaurant itself is simple and has a family-style feeling. Booths line the edges and tables fill the center. Several flat screen tvs display photos of Nepal. We enjoyed the coconut korma, spicy dahl, samosas, vegetable biryani, chicken tikka masala,... More

I know what you're thinking--Nepalese food in SLC? Yes! What a find -- took my father there for lunch while on a family visit to SLC and this place is really good. Ordered from menu (vs buffet)--great Nan, Kurd dishes and curries. Enjoy the food and the atmosphere. Come early for lunch -- this place fills up fast!

Whenever we are in mood for Indian-Nepali food, we head to Kathmandu. Yesterday, we went there for dinner, and the place was packed. Their menu has list of Nepali and Indian dishes, appetizers and so on. We had the vegetable appetizer platter, with onion bhaji, vegetable samosa, paneer pakora, veggie pakora with a mint dipping sauce. We enjoyed the onion... More

By far the best indian food in Salt Lake City. Very happy with their varieties, service, quality and most Importantly taste of the food. Only disappointment was gulab jamun which was rubbery and all others were good. Would love to visit one more time for sure.

Very enjoyable evening. Restaurant has great atmosphere, and is richly decorated with items from Nepal & India. Seemed like all of the staff were from those countries too. Had big TV's with beautiful slideshow pictures.. We ordered the Vegetable Coconut Korma and the Vegetable Chow Chow. Both were delicious, and we both came home with leftovers enough for a second... OK. Honestly, I have to admit that when I first saw the advertisements and reviews for Kathmandu, I was incredibly incredulous. "The most authentic Nepali food in Salt Lake." Really? Sorry. I just couldn't wrap my head around it. Finding authentic Thai or Chinese food in Salt Lake was already challenging enough, despite the vast plethora of Thai and Chinese... More
