Good eats: strange beats!

Let's face it: you don't travel to the wonderful, wild West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island primarily for the food unless you have contacts there who catch fish, shoot deer and wild boar, and have their own source of whitebait, and you have facilities to cook it all. You go there for the... read more

Took the free limo pick up. A very unique experience taking a limo for the first time. Ordered the venison which was flavourful but may have been overcooked at some parts, rendering it tough. However, the duck confit and the mudcake really good, we enjoyed them. Price is quite steep though, just a heads up.

We chose this because we had been driving all day and thought the free limo pickup was a fun way to get to dinner. The limo and driver were great. The restaurant was ok but the service was a bit rough. The staff was quite loud in the back and played music that competed with the front end. The service... More

This cafe is run by a very welcoming friendly Filipino family. We both enjoyed large-portion, well-cooked meals from an interesting menu. Highlight for us was the great service and friendly chat with the staff. Would happily recommend this restaurant to anyone.

With a standard decor, one would expect standard food fare, accompanied by a server more interested in the young girls, diners would be presently surprised by both the quality & freshness of the pasta dishes we ordered. A-1 on the juke box

The food was great. We each had a different dish and we all enjoyed it. The service was fine but I would have expected staff to pay more attention to us especially as we were the only ones there at the time

Having been recommended by our hotel staff to visit Blue Ice, we were looking forward to our experience. Unfortunately it did not live up to our expectation. I ordered the fish and chips, I must say the fish was very moist and enjoyable, but to serve crinkle cut chips, what a hide, especially at these prices. My husband ordered the... More

After reading other reviews we were anticipating a much better meal than the one we received. Serving crinkle cut frozen chips is not on! The rib eye steak was NOT rib eye and very tough. Atmosphere was non existent.

I sat on the porch, enjoying coffee and conversation with my waiter. When my friends showed up, they told us the restaurant was full (four or five tables open) and sent us upstairs to the bar/pool room which was noisy and bare. We didn't want to eat there. They asked us to leave via the back stairs. Not sure why... More

We stumbled upon this restaurant looking for a nice place to celebrate a 60th birthday in a touristy area. While the outside is non-assuming, the food is excellent....beautifully prepared, visually stunning, fresh and delicious. Attentive staff.
