Lake Matheson is one of New Zealand's most scenic icons. Situated on the West Coast of the South Island, in the heart of Glacier Country and Westland National Park, the Lake Matheson walk is a must do attraction for all visitors to Fox Glacier & Franz Josef Glacier. 'Picture Perfect' reflections of New Zealand's highest peaks Mt Cook & Mt Tasman can be captured in the dark waters of this ancient lake formed by the retreat of the Fox Glacier. At the base of Lake Matheson and gateway to the walkway are Matheson Cafe and ReflectioNZ Gifts and Gallery. The cafe offers quality food in a luxurious environment and the gift store is always a favourite, offering a range of Kiwiana products, clothing and souvenirs. A trip to Lake Matheson is simply not complete without a visit to Matheson Cafe and ReflectioNZ Gifts and Gallery.

Quality and cleanliness is apparent in this cafe, the toilets were clean and the staff friendly. We had nice weather when we visited to we took advantage of the outside seating area and 'soaked up the views'. This place is 'family friendly' and 'child' friendly and this is just an observation as we were travelling as a couple (but thought... More

Called in for lunch after reading of its award winning status and was not disappointed. The food was reasonably priced but exceptionally good value due to the high quality ingredients used. The cafe was clean, airy and of a contemporary style.Do visit if you can.

We ate here last night after a recommendation from our hotel. We found the location to be lovely and the wait staff were very friendly and professional. Unfortunately we were not enamored of the food. He had the pork cutlet and I had the ribeye and they were both very average meals. Perhaps our expectations were too high!

After a delightful walk around the lake we had a spot of breakfast. Just toast and bagel with extras but really lovely and just the job.

we turned up with no reservation. Fortunately the place is away from Fox Glacier so withing 10 minutes we were seated. Food is well cooked, fresh and with good ingredients, wines are well selected and reasonably priced and service very friendly. As the clouds lifted we were given stunning views of Mount Cook and Mount Tasman. Best place to eat... More

We were there for breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed both the food and the views. There is a souvenir shop beside the cafe that sells NZ souvenirs and we had an enjoyable time browsing through the stuff. Worth a visit.

You can't go wrong here. I had a seafood risotto meal for lunch and it was superb. The usual high level of Kiwi service and upbeat attitude that is like nowhere else on earth we have been .
