A pleasant enough meal

We visited with our family at a busy time of year and felt glad we had booked ahead as quite a few guests were being turned away. Despite the busyness we found our wait staff friendly and attentive. The food was well presented but a bit average for the price. The ambience of this small restaurant... read more

After winding your way to the back of the hotel through twisting and turning corridors, you find the Pihanga Cafe & T Bar. The T Bar is cute, with ski field related seating and decor, but the cafe feels like it's been shoehorned into the back of an unused space. We were greeted by a pleasant waitress, but the food... We arrived here to have a meal after walking up to watch the sunset. This was at 8.45pm there were plenty of tables. We were seated after another couple who had booked however when another group arrived they were seated and had their order taken 5 mins later. After waiting for 25 mins and others that arrived after us having... More

We stopped in one evening for a pint after hiking all day. It was quiet and reasonably priced. It's a complicated place to get to from inside the hotel, like a network of basement tunnels - just very odd. Overall it was average, we had pints and watched some Master's on SkySport.

A group of friends booked for lunch. Some of us arrived after the others but when we asked the waitress for the specials to be explained she said that she had already gone over them and seemed quite put out to have to go over them again. Not good. The food varied from fine - the grilled salmon was excellent... More

Horrible food and rude service. After a bad experience else where requested that burger was not pink and well cooked. It was recieved pink. Also the pork belly was more fat than meat with no crackling. Service is awful, unattentive staff who scoffed at me for requesting none pink meat and than serviced pink meat. Never noticed our water was... More

The hotel itself is great. The eating experience for those who do not wish to pay for the silver service is very underwhelming. The downstairs cafe - Pihanga Cafe - caters for those with less than expensive eating habits. As this is pretty much the only eatery in Whakapapa Village out of season, you would hope for more. The menu... More

Wanted a light meal on Christmas Eve so chose this on sample menu shown.Requested table for 2 at 7.30pm. Told it was booked out and only time available was 6.30 or 9pm. Not wanting late meal chose 6.30. On entering restaurant there was only 1 other couple there. Our arrival made it 4 people and this is how it remained... More
