Heading back into SF from Muir Woods we pulled into this place not knowing what we would find but OMG am I glad we did!! I so appreciate a chef who is willing to cook food like this! Too many chefs forget that classic, rustic, time consuming preparation is what separates ordinary food from OMG food!! Grand sauces and superior... More

Sure it's a busy place but that's part of the fun. Plan to be there awhile and enjoy the oysters, burger, lamb shank and great wine list.

Great for more hearty food. Vegetarians should probably not bother. Get a table in the back for a little more room. Reservations recommended and feel free to use the valet, not much parking.

Arrived to meet a couple of friends and the place (bar area) was packed and therefore noisy. Took a long time to order anything and get served, even after we were seated (still in the bar area). The food was great, started with the Kale salad, Ahi Tuna and an amazing duck dish with figs. All dishes were very very... More

The Buckeye is popular for many reasons - superb service, impressive menu, lively bar, valet parking and it is lovely - it is elegant with a modicum of rustic. Can get packed - can be noisy. No, not a great place for kids.

Service was good, despite it being packed out. Definitely recommend booking ahead if you want a table.

Two (former) professional cooks and three civilians celebrated a few birthdays and we were all happy with our dinners. There were a few missteps in service as more than once we were brought the wrong food and getting water seemed to be an issue. However, the artichoke and salad starters were lovely and main courses were wonderful. Best polenta ever... More

We went there to celebrate a couple of birthdays with friends. Very nostalgic-lodge- like, COZY built in the 1920's I believe, Try the smoked chicken wings as an appetizer. The best I have ever tasted. Service was friendly and awesome. Our waiter was very engaging and funny. If you are in the Bay area, don't miss this one!
