A Monument to 50's & 60's American-Italian Food

I'm tired of hearing that La Ginestra isn't "authentic Italian." Wasn't that Italian food you had when you were a kid, all about cheese and tomato sauce, the best? I love Northern Italian, Sicilian, Umbrian, Roman, and Piemontese. But, I also love that good old American Italian of my youth, and... read more

We ate there last week. A super salad of beets, followed by a Lasagne which was devoid of any Cheese Sauce,( and no browning under the grill for that beautiful cheese glaze) but Tomato! I've never, in all my continental explorings,(including Italy) had a dish like it. As I said to the waitress (Chrissie, just learn to listen to the... More

I've been coming here for over thirty years--and it just gets better and better. Fantastic spinach salad with beets--ennough to share. The best cannelloni anywhere--including Italy. Moist chicken. Zabaglione!

this restaurant is the only restaurant in Mill Valley that has survived a lengthy test of time. Their house made fresh meatless ravioli is fabulous, as is their calamari steak dore. If you stick to their standards, the quality tends to be high and the dinners worth the price

This spot is another classic Italian spot that long time locals are drawn to. I think THE THING to order is a Caesar salad and the Spinach Ricotta Raviolis that are made fresh daily and are in a cream and tomato sauce that are just OUT OF THIS WORLD. Don't miss this dish if you eat here.

We love this place. Every time we go there we end up questioning the value. And yet, a week later...there we are! The food is as authentic as you will find in the area and the Restaurant has been in the same place, in the same family for decades. It's nicely appointed but not fancy. The pesto pasta is the... The first time I went there I thought I had found a gem! Amazing gnocchi and other main dishes. But when dessert rolled around, it was awful. They had warm Zabaglione on the menu which is one of my favorites, and we were going to share one. The sounds from the kitchen were appropriate, but what was delivered was the... More

We live in Portland Oregon now but we still visit La Ginestra every time we are near Mill Valley. The food is consistently good every time! The Eggplant Parmesan is the kind of dish you dream about, it is simply the best I have ever had! While the staff was not super attentive when we first arrived they delivered excellent... More
