Great beer and damn good food

We went here for a burthday celebration for my beer-loving husband. On a Saturday night in downtown Frederick, it can be difficult to find a place where 5 people can walk in without a reservation, but this microbrewery/restaurant is located in a more surburban setting, next to a shopping mall, so... read more

Wanted to try a new restaurant and decided on Barley and Hops because the menu seemed to appeal to most people in our group. We ate on a Sunday (kids eat free on Sundays) around 4PM and were seated right away. Our waiter (Mike I think) was prompt in getting our drinks orders and was very friendly. We then placed... More

The fish and chips were just ok The calamari appetizer was a bit overpriced for the amount you get. The beers were just average.

I was lucky enough to go at a time when kids ate free and the microbrews were $2.75. My son had the kids ribs, and they were great. I had the cheesy potato and beer soup and a salad. The soup was amazing. The service was great (thanks Mike!) once the staff remembered they had seated us. My only complaints... More

A worthwhile stop on our way to PA. We frequent brew houses for my husband. He enjoyed the IPA and tasted the Pumpkin Nitro. Both he would recommend. Our server Mike was attentive and offered excellent suggestions. The highlight was the food. The Gourmet Grilled Cheese Menu was entertainment reading the mouth watering selections. I went with the Swiss and... More

We had lunch at Barley and Hops and had a great experience! Our hostess and waiter were very friendly and helpful. We tried the Octoberfest and a Saison - both were very good. While we waited for our food, my husband asked if we could get some chips, and we were brought some warm tortilla chips with some excellent homemade... More

Husband and I got our Cajun crab dip which was great....and I ordered the AYCE crab legs. On the first round I received 2 med/small group of legs and when I was almost finished with them the waitress walked over and asked if I wanted more. It took a little while and the 2nd plate was about the same 2... More

Terrific Lobster Mac and Cheese, great choice of local beers, but every time that more food came from the kitchen there was a mistake for our party of 6.

Stopped by Friday evening-stayed in local hotel so walked down the street to dinner. Belgian ale was tasty. Blond ale also good with a bit more hops bitterness. Grilled veggie panini was excellent! Eggplant, peppers and squash with mozzarella. Maryland crab soup was very good (veggie with crab meat). House salad was above average (not iceberg lettuce). Chocolate cheesecake was... More

Spinach salad was delicious, fresh and large enough to be shared by two. Egg roll appetizers were crisp and hot, nice sauce with them. Service was slow - we sat on the bar side and all tables were being served by the bartender trying to serve the bar as well. That didn't work well. Very nice, apologetic, but slow service.... More
