The spirit of Mesa Verde

The food is different and worth dining there. The view is unlike any other and you are looking over Mesa Verde. You might see a wild horse out in the brush. The corn bread has a sage flavoring that makes it addictive. I had the turkey medallions which were in a cherry glace that was... read more

We had dinner here during our one night stay in Far View Lodge. The restaurant filled up early with what I suspect was a coach party, but we went and sat in the sunshine on the bar terrace upstairs for a while. The restaurant was still busy later but we had no problem getting a table. Nice views. The food... More

We ate here during our one night stay while in Mesa Verde National Park. We got there early so we had no trouble getting a table but it fills up fast. The tables were close enough to carry on a conversation with people next to you if you wish although that could be a negative too. We both had the... More

Ate two dinners and two breakfasts in the Metate Room. There was a 30 minute wait both evenings for a table, but if you are so inclined you can go up to the bar and order drinks while you wait. The Pinstripe Red Ale is worth a try. (Pay as soon as you are served, because you will want to... More

One doesn't expect fine dining in a National Park. And, one doesn't expect fine dining in the remote deserts, mesas and mountains of Southwest Colorado. Finally, do you believe the Federal Government can really deliver excellence in anything they do? The reputation of the Metate Room in Mesa Verde National Park, as providing some of the finest dining in Colorado, has... More

On a recent visit to Mesa Verde my husband and I along with our 2 friends ate at the Metate Room and I had the best Poland Rellano ever - every bite - very tasty. The other meals -the Far View Pasta and Elk Sheppard Pie - were also very food. Service was good, waiter was attentive, and his suggestion... More

We ate at the restaurant downstairs one night. It was nice, but we preferred the menu upstairs and we could sit out side. It was more casual.

My wife and I have stayed at a number of national park lodges over the years and have learned to lower our expectations but what a nice surprise when we tried out the 'local' restaurant. Metate Room at the Far View Lodge is very much a gem hidden in the park system. Great food, good service and a fair price... More

This is dining excellence! Excellent attentive service, unusual food selections such as elk cooked to perfection. Have at least one dinner here- you can also enjoy the beautiful patio for excellent views of the horizon

We stayed at the Lodge last Saturday night after driving up from the big Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. I don't know if they were overcrowded because many people did that, or if they are always that crowded. However, we didn't realize it would be such a popular place and put our names on the list at 7:35. It ended up being... More
