World's Largest Sonic Drive-In

We were excited to go to the greatly advertised drive-in, called the Varsity. When we arrived, it was a mad house at best and the food was marginal. If want to see the worlds largest drive-in, I guess it is the place to go. If you are wanting food LESS tasteful than Sonic Drive_in's, this is the... read more

Our mistake: we were sober when we ate the food. We tried The Varsity only because it has such a strong local reputation. Maybe it's a long local reputation, a lot of history, and memories for GT students. Adults should probably eat elsewhere, the food was really poor quality, tasteless and regrettable.

The Varsity has been here forever. The people who eat here are varied. You'll see students, tourists, locals and people of all ages. Do yourself a favor and get a Chili Slaw dog and an order of extra crispy onion rings. Maybe splurge on a Frosted Orange or peach pie. You just cant eat this stuff more than 2x a... More

Food was what you would expect....hot dogs were ok, fries were luke warm and soggy. Didnt try the burgers. Maybe hit on a bad day. The staff was not welcoming at all. Got our order wrong then said we didn't order it right. Bathrooms were not clean at all!! Restaurant itself needed a good clean up. Since it is a... More

Locals love this place and have been eating here over 50 years. A group from GSU took us here last week. It helps if you know what you want before you get there! Mostly burger, dogs, chili or not. We were told to add an FO (Frosty Orange) or a C-something (chocolate milk drink). The onion rings are very good.... More

I've eaten at the Atlanta Varsity from time to time since the early 60s. My parents ate there as teenagers so believe me, the Varsity and my family have a history. I took my 4-year old grandson there for his first visit a few weeks ago. We arrived at 11:40 a.m. on a Thursday so I was quite surprised at... More

Don't ask. Just go. Eat the burgers and dogs slathered in chili. Enjoy the perfectly crisp onion rings. Soak in the classic decor. Put on a silly paper hat and take a picture. You won't regret the visit.

Every time we went to an Atlanta Braves game as a child we ate at The Varsity. Now, as an adult, I keep up the tradition if I'm staying in the area. It's more for the experience and history than it is great food (although, who doesn't love a good chili cheeseburger, onion rings, and fried pie?!). Be prepared for... More

After hearing about the Varsity and seeing it on TV, I felt like it was a must do while in ATL. I loved the history of the place and the nostalgia. Burgers and dogs ok, onion rings good, frosted orange the BEST! Our family had a split decision 2 liked, 1 disliked. If we get the chance to go back,... More

Probably the largest hot dog stand in the world. The hot dogs are OK. Ordering at the front counter is an experience with the fastest service we have ever seen. Get your order and find a table, there are hundreds. One of the clean up people told us they can get 30,000 people during a football game. The food is... More
