On my way from Boston to Middlebury, VT., I stopped here for a quick lunch. For the first time in about 20 years I had a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich (The girl at the counter didn't understand what I meant until I said BLT!) and it was really delicious. They ask what kind of bread you'd like, toasted or... More

This place may be O.K. as a dairy bar, but lunch for 4 was tasteless and pricey. Nice location and well kept grounds.

Our wholebellies had freezer burn, were over breaded and didn't taste like anything. The hamburger was raw in the middle and cold prefrozen fries. The hot dog was the worst tasting hot dog that I had ever had. Maybe a pit stop for icecream but nothing else is worth it.

In a way the White Cottage ought to be called "The New England Experience" or something similar (except that that would sound like a theme park) -- clams, both strips and full-bellied, scallops, other seafood, burgers, onion rings that are so fine that they could lead to an outbreak of world peace, ice cream -- and all of that, served... Someone gave us a gift certificate for White Cottage so we decided to cash it in. Got the onion rings, chicken fingers, fries and drinks. Food was out in no time. Food was hot. We sat on the picnic bench down "by the river". Took our time because it was such a beautiful day. Rolled up jeans, waded in the... More

The portions are very small for what they charge. We spent way too much for too little food. I ordered the lobster on salad. I know that lobster isn't cheap, but even the salad part of it was tiny for $17. Ridiculous. My husband's pork bbq sandwich tasted ok, but was kid's sized.

The 5-star rating is for the setting - right by the river - and if you go with children on a summer day (as I did), they will happily wade in the river for as long as you want them to after eating ice cream/ snack bar type of food. The ice cream was yummy too! Tip if you have... More

Fried clams are highly recommended. Old fashioned local dive right on the river. Children very much enjoyed the swinging table/benches. Good place to get your feet wet in the river

Great fried shrimp in an unexpected location. Seems to be popular with the locals as well. Service was fast and cordial.
