Great Tapas and Location

We looked for Melaza Bistro based on other TripAdvisor reviews and their website. It is located at the end of the main downtown area and an easy and pleasant walk. We live in town and were skeptical that a restaurant offering a Caribbean menu could survive. Well, beware of the skeptic within. We had very ample and flavorful appetizers, along with some wonderful entrées that were excellent to the very last bite.

I made a Sat. night reservation here for Mother's Day after searching online to find someplace different from restaurants we go to all the time. We've been on several Caribbean cruises and love the food from that part of the world, especially some of the restaurants we've visited in San Juan. I rated this review as one of the best... More

We chose this restaurant while visiting the area due to the interesting menu choices, and the fact that their website claims an "extensive selection of gluten free options." While reviewing the menus with our server, I explained that cannot have gluten and asked if there was a separate menu - to which she replied that they "didn't really add flour... More

Hello, Thank you for letting me know about your experience. While I'm glad you enjoyed our food, I'm sorry how you felt about our service, indeed our menu have an "Extended List of Gluten Free Items", 10 out of 13 appetizer are Gluten free and 10 out of 13 dinner entrees are Gluten free, and yes, we used a different... Wonderful, fresh Cod special had by 2 at our table....both of us more than pleased with it! My husband had the Jerk fish dish and loved it. What was so nice, is that my toddler who is very picky, had the chicken quesadilla and just about ate the whole thing. I'm not much for quesadilla's, but I have to admit... More

Excellent Caribbean food and we know because we are Cuban and Puerto Rican. The empanadas were so good and reminiscent of home-cooked meals. The fried yucca was fresh and soft. To make our evening even more special, chef David Diaz made us a special mofongo that was just like home's. The wait staff, Shannon and Robin were extremely pleasant and... More

After graduating from a Master's degree program myself, classmates and family/friends wished to celebrate over a delicious meal, conversation and cocktails. Planning proved to be such an easy task as communication with the owner on menu selection was quick and easy, he knows how to handle large parties and can execute well with good communication. We were even placed in... More

The hosts in our BB recommended this restaurant. We were incredulous at first - Caribbean cuisine in Vermont? Alas, the food is superb. I had steak - it was slightly spiced and blackened, my wife had blackened chicken. We are from NYC metro and have many Caribbean restaurants around, and Melaza will top all, but one or two. Partially it is... More
