Hidden gem in snowy VT

Excellent Caribbean food and we know because we are Cuban and Puerto Rican. The empanadas were so good and reminiscent of home-cooked meals. The fried yucca was fresh and soft. To make our evening even more special, chef David Diaz made us a special mofongo that was just like home's. The wait... read more

After graduating from a Master's degree program myself, classmates and family/friends wished to celebrate over a delicious meal, conversation and cocktails. Planning proved to be such an easy task as communication with the owner on menu selection was quick and easy, he knows how to handle large parties and can execute well with good communication. We were even placed in... More

The hosts in our BB recommended this restaurant. We were incredulous at first - Caribbean cuisine in Vermont? Alas, the food is superb. I had steak - it was slightly spiced and blackened, my wife had blackened chicken. We are from NYC metro and have many Caribbean restaurants around, and Melaza will top all, but one or two. Partially it is... More

We were recently in Woodstock, Vt for a week and went to our usual places. On our last night there we decided to go out of our comfort range and try something different. With the help of TripAdvisor we found Melazo Bistro. It was wonderful !! Not many dining experiences that I have had will stick in my mind forever…but... More

The restaurant was amazing! My husband said "one of the best dinners of my entire life!" I totally agree!! Our waiter was super nice and knowledgeable about the food. I was raised on PR food so I when I find a Caribbean restaurant...I must try it! The selection was very unique as well. We went cookoo and ordered yucca fries... More

I didn’t know quite what to expect when we visited Melaza Bistro in Woodstock VT. I need not have worried however as it turned out to be a great meal. The Inside is a little on the chintzy with the walls painted with palm trees etc. The service and food however more than makeup for the decor. As a main... More

We live in town so Melaza is one of our regular restaurant stops. We had company from Boston and this was there first visit. Our friends know good food & raved about their meals, and the service. All 4 of us had something different and everything was delicious. I had a signature dish; a generous Pork Shank which was tasty,... More
