The mojito's here are pretty perfect. There is the classic with mint and fruit mojitos too. A nice range of appetizers - the shrimp in garlic sauce are huge and the sauce is worth keeping and dipping your warm bread in. The entrees are all good sized, and come with a house salad which was greens with strawberries and a... More

Melaza specializes in Caribbean food, and prepares it well. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. If it's warm enough, I would recommend sitting in the outdoor space rather than indoors. On the other hand, while the staff is extremely friendly, the service is very slow, and the timing of the service can be off. I would not recommend the margaritas,... More

Came for tapas, but we were swayed into a full dinner by the description of the amazing specials. There was no wait for us, but it was early - they recommend reservations. Our server, Shannon, was a cheerful multitasker, serving as our server and also hostess and bartender for the entire place. Our meals were exceptional and creatively combined ingredients... More

The choices on the menu are exciting and different. We ordered 4 tapas choices with a view to ordering more if we needed to. We needn't have bothered - our choices were really ample. * Crispy latin pastry turnovers filled with local Boyden farms ground beef *Pulled chicken chili Nachos over crisp flour tortillas, melt4ed Montereyjack cheese, pico de gallo &... we were there on a busy night, Sat night, middle of August. we were very unhappy to wait for 40 minutes for our drink order to arrive. in fact, we almost left. it also took too long for someone to take our drink order in the first place and to take our food orders. Our appetizers/first courses also took a... More

Last minute reservations and the food was delicious. Love the Woodstock area, a good alternative to the basics, great tapas type menu and really flavorable.

This place is so great! The atmosphere allows you to feel like you've traveled away from VT, which is especially great in winter!! The drinks are creative. You can come in for some shareable tapas, or do an entire 3 course dinner! The chef definitely is cooking his passion, it comes across clearly in his food. No need to feel... More

This restaurant was recommended by the bed and breakfast where we had accommodations. Melaza Bistro did not disappoint. I had the scallops and would recommend this beautifully presented dish. We followed with the lava dessert. If you like chocolate, you will love this dessert. One in our party had the snapper special of the night and loved it. The reasons... More

My daughter just moved to Vermont to go to law school. We have been so happy with the restaurants in this state. Melaza is a really great Caribbean joint where the chief is from Porto Rico. He has some really great food. The appetizers were great. My favorite was the pulled pork nachos. The scallops, flank steak and pork shank... More
