delightful, delicious

Had my wife not spotted the sign out front, I would have passed this great place for food and drinks. I'm glad she did, this restaurant stands out among regular roadside diners. The atmosphere is cool, there is a good variety of beers, and really great food items available. We both had salmon... read more

A culinary oasis offering French menu and a fantastic collection of art, some for sale. Try the French onion soup and the pine nut salat (vegetables mostly grown in the back yard) You want to enjoy this hidden gem! I go there any time I can.

Best Beef Bourguignon outside of Paris! Served upon these 2.5" thick egg noodles. Seasoned way beyond perfection with large parts of carrots and potatoes. If time is crucial as you drive north or south on the 395, order in advance. Have someone call on their cell/smart phone 45 minutes in advance of arriving. The Beef Borguignon was $24 or $25.95.... These people are indeed from France but have lived in Independence a long time. They advertised as open from 2 to 9, but when we called to confirm just before 3, the woman initially said, yes we are open, then someone said something and she said, oh, we are closing at 3 and will reopen at 4. When we arrived,... More

The restaurant is French in many ways....decor, owner/cook is French, restaurant serves as a gallery, and the pet dog (he is adorable) will hang out with you during your meal. The menu isn't really French...a few exceptions but most of those items were unavailable the day we were there. The owners wait and cook...she does a phenomenally good job with... More

I only stopped here for a drink, so I can't tell about the food, but I liked the place and Michelle, the owner. He's certainly not the average USAn bartender. He's a French guy who remains very French despite so many years in USA: laconic, outspoken, and not really caring too much whether you like him or not. Not the... More

Perhaps not the best Eastern Sierra restaurant - but certainly one of them. Then again that is not saying much as the Eastern Sierra is no culinary Mecca. Husband and wife team, she cooks well and while he deals laconic Gallic service, do not expect fast food (though it can arrive fast), the menu and drinks will vary according to... More

Where else in the middle of the desert can you find a charming, relaxing cafe with paintings covering the walls and jazz music playing in the background? The food is incomparable and they have a great selection of beer and wine. Please note that this is the wrong choice if you are in a hurry and expect your food prepared... More

Waited over an hour for terrible, over priced food. Only one other table so it wasn't busy. We had 9 people in our group and the plates were served 3 dinners at a time with 10 to 15 minutes between the next served. By the time the last 3 were served, everyone else was done eating. No apology or even... More

The ambience of this old 1892 building which was once a restaurant and still is a restaurant is equalled by the quality of the food, the friendly nature of the French owner and his Berber wife. The paintings on the walls for sale by a California artist provide a nice diversion while the food is being prepared. Carlos the mutt... More
