I hadn't been to the Gillieru for many years, where my wife and I used to enjoy many Lobster dinners. The restaurant juts out in the Bay, with the sea lapping along the walls and the colourful maltese boats bobbing up and down with the waves. The place isn't often full, but that to me helped the the romantic ambiance... More

I am Maltese and I live in Uk. Gillieru was always my mothers favourite restaurant and we always ate there on my frequent visits to malta. Sadly my mother passed away. Her favourite waiter was Ninu who retired, but last year I attended with my father for lunch and to our delight Ninu was back! We grew up at St... More

This is a nice restaurant in a good location overlooking the sea. I've eaten there a couple of times and have no complaints about the food which is well-prepared and presented. There is, however, a lack of atmosphere as the restaurant is very large and feels like a hotel restaurant. Mid-week it can be intimidatingly empty.

Not sure were the slogan of Gillerus comes from “specialized in seafood”. Our impression was there is a lot do to underpin such a slogan. We went there for the second time after we heard that they have a new chef.. First visit two years ago was somehow disappointing and now we had to learn that the information about the... More

Enjoyed a really gorgeous lunch here one Sunday. The octopus was magnificent! This restaurant specialise in fish so it's the thing to order here. It's formal compared to some places around. Well worth a visit for impressive local cuisine.

The once superbly located and renowned restaurant who topped all as a fish restaurant need to think how to revive the place and present more inspirational food. It's a pity as it has great potential. Resting on ones laurels doesn't help especially when so many restaurants go to great measures to patronise new clients. The food was good but without... More

The Gillieru Fish Restaurant shares its name with the hotel next door and is leased from the hotel, there the similarity ends. We had three dinners there and all were excellent. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive and the setting perfect, sitting outside watching the fishing boats coming in. Helpings were generous and mouth wateringly tasty. We normally eat at... More

This is one of Malta oldest restaurants with a unique location..it has degraded from what it used to be, Still acceptable, but nothing t write home about. So if in the area worth giving a try. The fish I had was fresh, but noticed too much stuff coming out of a freezer on the plates of adjoining tables

Stopping through for a late large lunch upon the recommendation of our taxi driver, we were pleasantly surprised. The owner helped take personal care of us with aristocratic English. My friends who had tagliatelle starters declared them to be quite good, and the ravoli had "amazingly fresh sauce" according to another. The owner recommended local bottles of wine which paired...
