I remember a time when The Gillieru was among the top restaurants on the island for dining, especially fish restaurants. This must have been early eighties. The ambiance seemed to have stopped there. The food quality unfortunately nose dived. The service by the local staff albeit friendly tends to be somewhat rough. The service by some 'temporary foreign staff' tends... More

The service was slow and customers were dealt with out of order in which they arrived. I had the seabass whilst my companion had the pasta which to be fair he enjoyed. I was surprised that the seabass although very nice arrived without chips or anything else. At 19 euros I would not have expected this. The view was amazing... More

We visited the Gillieru on the second night of our holiday and despite an obvious atmosphere between two members of staff, we had a pleasant dining experience - good food, good service. Given this, we returned five nights later hoping for a similar experience, but we were left wanting. We entered the restaurant, which wasn't too busy and waited to... More

A family night out on our first evening in Malta. A great start, under the stars by the sea. The owner choose a lovely selection of fish for us all. All cooked well and all tasty. Great friendly service. Would return.

I first visited this restaurant in 1979 when two young guys would walk the tables playing guitar - their version of Classical gas was amazing. So too was the seafood. I always had Mediterranean Prawns Marniere - huge prawns cooked in the shells and served with the obligatory finger bowl so that you don't wipe your hands on the table... More

After reading the recent reviews for the Gillieru Restaurant, we must have been the odd ones out because our experience was the worst that anyone could wish for. As we walked in, everything seemed great; a waiter prepared us an excellent table at the water's edge. As it was quite windy they kindly changed our table to a sheltered one.... More

We hadn't booked, something I would recommend, but we were found a lovely table for two. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful, we had a really nice bottle of white wine with our pasta meal. We were spoiled for choice with the menu, I was very tempted by the tuna, a local speciality is rabbit but I played it safe... More
