Malabar has an excellent and wide ranging menu. The menu includes items such as chaat and a variety of dosas that are not found in most Indian restaurants. All of the dishes are well prepared and can be served with any level of heat between mild and 'wow'. The staff is friendly and helpful and seem genuinely glad to have... More

We went for the buffet. They had a wide variety of dishes, both South Indian and North Indian. You can get either dosas or naan with your food. The chettinad chicken was great with the dosa. Was not very impressed with the chutney and sambhar. The carrot halwa was good. The staff was friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was... More

Not really sure what Sandra Dee is talking about in her review (8/2/14). This food was wonderful. I ate here last weekend for dinner and am already back for their lunch buffet 6 days later! There was not one dish that I tried that wasn't delicious (and I tried 4-5 of them)! I especially enjoy the chicken curry and naan... More

The staff at the restaurant were extremely helpful describing the menu and suggesting what I should order. The meal was excellent and I would considering coming back again. The butter chicken was excellent and the staff was awesome in helping with the selection and were available to answer any questions.

We love Indian food and this is one of our favorites in Richmond. Located very close to Short Pump Town Center, about 1/2 mile South of W. Broad St. Nice atmosphere and the owner is an excellent host. I've taken business clients and family along with friends to this relatively small restaurant. Plenty of table styles to fit most groups.... More

Stopped for dinner here, to meet up with some family, while driving through Richmond. They had very good lamb saag, mango lassi, and spicy pickle. I've had very good Indian food over the years, and so while this isn't the best I've ever had, I thought it was very good quality, with no complaints. Would recommend you try this place... More

I have been addicted to Indian food since about 1961, and have eaten in dozens, maybe hundreds of Indian restaurants. I have been to Indian restaurants in the UK, Canada, and various cities in the US. I have never actually "dined" at Malabar, but I have had quite a few takeouts, and in my not very humble opinion their food... More

I had tried the Lunch Buffet and also the A' La' Carte menu for Dinner. While I would rate the food as pretty average, you definitely would get a feel of having an indian cuisine with their variety of options. Ambience is great and kid friendly too. Definitely worth a try if you havent been to any other Indian restaurants... More

We had samosa chaat, masala dhosa, baby eggplant and yellow daal. All dishes were delicious and served hot. We aske for spicy, and they did not over do it. Service was prompt and the restaurant was clean. The decor is ok, but food was great. We found it through Internet search en route to Charlottesville. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I have been going to Malabar for years now, and I have to that the food is consistently great. The weekday buffet is so ridiculously cheap for the quality of food. Plus you get fresh dosa and roti. The waitstaff was fairly knowledgeable, but there are some inconsistencies in what each waiter says... I think that perhaps they are not... More
