We had a wonderful dinner before we attended The Color Purple at the Virginia Rep. Theater across the street from the restaurant. We wanted to find somewhere in the area where we could have dinner and see the play and still be able to leave our car in the vicinity of the Theater. The wonderful Valet Attendant let us know... Our hotel recommended this place, which you would not even see unless you knew it was there! Massive menu, brilliant staff, excellent wine list and great quality food throughout. We only had 2 nights in Richmond and despite the claims of many other fine restaurants we went both of them because we had so much we wanted to try. Richmond... More

This restaurant looked promising but proved disappointing. The service was fine but the food was not well prepared. The fries were limp and the food lacked defined taste. The wines we tasted were just awful. The two big drawbacks did not overcome the decent service we received and the ambience that was fine.

I've been to Tarrant's over 20 times in the past few years. It's close to work and convenient for lunch. It's also the best pre-theatre dinner if you're going to Virginia Rep. (They even offer free valet parking for both dinner and the show) The food is outstanding. It is rare that I see a large menu that doesn't worry... More

An elegant but cozy American bistro. We had a nice gazpacho and then a very good soft-shell crab sandwich on a roll and a pastrami melt sandwich for lunch. Delicious! Very good service too.

I love Tarrant's Cafe. Wonderful friendly warm restaurant in downtown Richmond with interesting menu and delicious. First, great service and everybody there was friendly, helpful, honest and insightful. The Host, Steven V., even took the time to discuss the history of the building which was a Pharmacy (Tarrant's) dating back to the 1850's and he pointed out several place's in... More

We were a bit taken aback at first, because we walked around to the back entrance where you can pick up to-go orders, but after going around the corner and finding the restaurant entrance, we were seated right away. The ambiance of this place is just off the chart. It has such an old-fashioned, warm, inviting feel to it. You... More

My wife and I tried Tarrant's Cafe for her birthday and it was a very nice experience. The building interior has a lot of old time character and offers an ambience different from the usual chain restaurants. Our server was extremely prompt and courteous and we never had to ask for refills or extra napkins or anything for that matter.... More

Not sure how to describe our experience...since we are always on the lookout for perfection. The ambience is really nice - upscale, the old made new - keeping history and currently chic. We were greeted and seated. Our server was prompt and ready to take our order before we settled in. We ordered some drinks and checked out the menu.... More
