To Squid or Not to Squid

The wife and I wanted to get a quick bite to eat for lunch before checking in to our hotel. The place has a sign that must be a hundred years old (tatered and faded). The place next door was vacant and we weren't sure it was still open for business. Fortunately I had just interacted with the... read more

Edo’s Squid is tucked away on the upper level of a building near VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. The signage and building exterior are generally unassuming and look somewhat rundown. A long staircase leads to the restaurant itself (as a note, those with mobility issues may have some difficulty with the stairs). The restaurant is simply and cleanly decorated. Open brick... More

This little restaurant is excellent. I'm a picky eater and I was extremely happy with the food. Fresh pasta was outstanding. The service was great also. I suggest going here!

Very good food and quick service. I had the Spaghetti and Crab, and would rate it excellent. The place is a little loud and the wait staff does not smile, but you're going there for great food and not to make friends. Strongly recommend.

My wife and I love this place for the food and the service. Never been disappointed by either. Extraordinary dishes prepared well. Interesting appetizers. I suppose it can get loud--lots of restuarants do. That has never been a distraction for us.

This was a rehearsal dinner for my daughter and fiancé. Their first date had been there. The food was wonderful from appetizers to the tiramisou. I have never liked calamari but theirs was great. I wanted a doggie bag for the pork chops but none were left. (we were served family style). The only bad thing about this place is... More

On the second floor on a street being torn up. I though we were in the wrong place with the broom and dustpan on the door. But inside it was bright and welcoming. I suspect it is quite noisy when full but we were there early. Good food large portions. The pasta fra diablo with shrimp was very tasty. The... More

You would miss this place if you didn't have the address. It's on a side street in the "Fan District" up a narrow set of stairs on the second floor. What we disliked: This place is LOUD!! I've never been there for lunch but the dinner hours are incredibly loud. Why the patrons shout, I have no idea. It is... More

I will never go back. I was treated rudely by the maitre'd and waitress. Upon arrival, less than 15 mins late for the entire group of 6 to come, another group was given a table and we had to wait 45 minutes to be seated. This is very loud, close setting. Menu is MEAT or Pasta. Confusing bc nothing is... More

Right by VCU. Check event times to avoid waiting. Place was packed before 7 and then emptied. Extremely noisy! Also, a few of the seats were flooded by the setting sun. No drapes on the windows. One entree, the pasta with broccoli, ricotta and pinenuts was fantastic. Our other two entrees, shrimp with pasta and veal piccata, were average at... More
