Affordable and pleasant enough, but boring

Three of us had dinner tonight at Farouk's, which we've enjoyed before, and I wonder if it's under new management. I seem to remember that we liked the food much better in the past, but this was okay. We had Lamb Biryani and tasty naan with raisins and almonds. The woman who served us was... read more

I have been at this restaurant twice: lunch and dinner. In both instances I found the food to be of poor quality and not fresh, especially the shrimp. The prices are low, but so is the food quality. There are several good to excellent Indian restaurants in Richmond. No need to settle for low quality and just OK taste.

I've not had Indian food before, but this place was recommended to us as a good place to begin. Service was excellent, and waiters and waitresses were dressed in traditional Indian outfits. The buffet, reasonably priced, gave us an opportunity to sample many different dishes. Most were not only palatable, but quite delicious. It is a small restaurant, tucked into... More

The food was very good, a customer certainly gets a real taste of India. A very good buffet with an affordable price. The wait staff was very nice.

I'm not a connoisseur of Indian food, but this place has a nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The garlic pita bread was tasty, and the mamtaz byriani (sp?) was delicious and more than enough for 3-4 meals.

I went to this restaurant with a colleague from work. We had the buffet lunch and it was very good. There were four vegetarian dishes and three chicken dishes plus appetizers. Everrything tasted very good and the manager (owner?) was very friendly and helpful. I just wish they had Naan instead of the oily Parathas. The Mango Lassi we ordered... More

I have been here a couple of times since 2006. It's in a convenient location when shopping in Carytown. The restaurant uses cloth tablecloths and stemmed glasses for water- nice touch. We had the buffet which included the vegetable pakora (delicious), butter chicken (good), chicken tandoori (fresh), aloo choley (good), kofta malai (also good). The naan bread had too much... More

Its a small quaint restaurant. We went for Mother's Day, so we made reservations. This was our first time trying Indian food. We had the appetizer platter mixed meat and vegetables, butter chicken and Naan bread with garlic and unions. We were completely satisfied and we will definitely be back.

I've never had a really god Indian meal in the US, but this food is acceptable, and far from the worst I've had. The decor is tired, but you go here to eat the food. If you want indian food, and are going to eat in the city, then this place is OK.

The food here is as good as any Indian food I've had in Richmond. It's my preferred place for eating in Carytown.
