Funky hole-in-the-wall kind of place

We kind of stumbled upon this place while searching for a spot to have lunch. It is fairly small but homey feeling. Tables are 1950's kitchen tables (which I remember from my youth). Booths are very low and worn which adds a certain character to the place though makes eating a tiny bit awkward. I... read more

The 821 Cafe offers a great selection of breakfast choices with something for everyone. Their Signature Omelets are unique and excellent. They have choices for vegans, vegetarians, and others.

We had lox and bagel plate, and Nutella-stuffed french toast.....all terrific. Nice service....seats could be more comfortable, but we weren't there so long as to make it hard on the back. But, sit at a table, not a booth.

It was ok. Had an omelet with sun-dried tomatoes and artichokes. There was a black tinge on the omelet, the bacon was soggy, and the biscuit was huge. The biscuit also tasted funny, like it was placed to closely under a gas burner to heat, which left a nasty gas flavor on the biscuit. I'd skip it if I had... More

We were traveling from NC to NY and perused the web for a good breakfast place. Breakfast burrito was awesome, kids had pancakes (huge, really huge), hubby had the big meat (?). It was all good. This place is kinda funky with a good vibe. Our family of five wouldn't be their usual patron in this college area, but that... More

Came upon this place when my son had freshman orientation at VCU and had a great omelette breakfast there. When we dropped him off to attend his freshman year, my husband & I went back to this sweet little spot. It a very funky, collegiate cafe, but don't let the homey atmosphere fool you--they have great food here with some... More

Met friends for Friday night dinner....we went for draft microbrews and the varied, interesting $5 small plates, vegetarians options. Excellent service. The place is small, not sure why I am sharing this secret actually....mostly because they deserve a fab review!!!!

We only ate here for breakfast, even though they served lunch and dinner with a small bar. I had a light breakfast both days, cheese grits (very good) and a biscuit the next (3-4" dia) which was probably the best I have ever had. My husband had rosemary potatoes and sausage patties that he said were good. We saw some... More

One of my favourite spots to grab breakfast while I'm in Richmond. Good selection of vegan food, strong coffee. Today's waitress was attentive and accommodating, with fast service. Also love the fact that you can get fruit as a side instead of carbs. The bloody marys are huuge! :)

821 was just a couple min walk from the Double Tree and just outside of the VCU campus. The food was above average, but the atmosphere was great. The tables are close together and some how we ended up in a conversation with the people to our right about Federal Economic Policy and the people to the left about aging... More
