Bought a Groupon and went on a mostly-dead Wednesday night expecting to try an RVA spot we've never hit. Waitress was bored and absent, came by maybe twice all night. Woman tending bar could have helped but she was doing her hair in the mirror all night. Kitchen guys seemed nice enough (they cook out in the dining space,) and... More

We visited when they were decorated for Christmas - definitely a must see! The Helen's burger is one of the best my husband had ever eaten. I had the shrimp and grits - it was delicious. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because the prices were slightly high compared to the portion size. The service here... More

Called them for a reservation to be told that there would not accept 9 people until 2 hours. Headed down to the restaurant only to be rejected at the door because they could not accommodate such a large group. We asked to be split up into 2 tables but they refused. Rude and not very bright response. Will not even... More

The food is great, but the atmosphere isn't the best nor is the location. The prices are quite expensive for the location and prices. As stated earlier the food is very good as well as the service...:-)

This place is...."interesting". The food is good (exception, pancakes. They are GREAT) , but we personally only can stand getting it to go. The restaurant is tiny and cramped and just feels dirty. The wait staff is, again, "interesting". I personally find the plain pancakes to be better than the blueberry, though both are delicious. Benedicts are good, french toast... More

At the bar had some shrimp and grits. As with the every dish I gave ad there, excellent. A little different with the bacon and very good. Limited but outside seating has been added, so something for regulars to think about Very attentive staff will win you over.

Cooks work directly in the front of the house and come up with some amazing meals that you wouldn't believe could come from such a dive. Building dates back 100 years and it's obvious but charming. The staff is top notch and have been there for a long time which is always a good indication (if they are making money,... More

Happy Birthday to me. As a restaurant traveler my wife and I love hitting all the new and hot spots in town. But when it was time to pick a birthday dinner I chose a Richmond classic. Helen's did not disappoint. The service was terrific, the drinks spot on, my flank steak was delicious, and the rockfish was yummy (I... More

Helen's is such a fun place, the back room is my favorite for a large group as it resembles the restaurant in Madrid where Socialism began. But really, it's the food ... always fresh and cooked to perfection. The salads and mussels are among my favorite and locally well known, the steak (bistecca) is out of this world, but for... More
