Great vegan food, interesting atmosphere, good value.

This place is in a basement and the atmosphere is bar like. Choices are on a chalk board at the front entrance. We had the tofu sandwhich which was served on a white bun with salad, and sweet potato fries. If you are new to vegetarian food and you would rather have a burgher, you really should... read more

We arrived shortly before 5 so we ordered from the lunch menu. The tempeh sandwiches were tasty and included small side orders of sweet potato fries and salad that rounded out the meal. Good beer and a fantastic vegan coconut crème brûlée for dessert. The service was prompt and friendly. I look forward to going there again when I'm in... More

Great place in the heart of downtown Richmond in the VCU quarter. Active, friendly service and great veg/vegan food capped off with some great craft beers choices! A+++

Recommended by my Vegan brother. I am not a Vegan....but the food tasted here was palate pleasing. Firstly, the restaurant is located in a basement. Playing in the background is comfortable blues club music. The menu written on chalkboard at entrance. Greeted kindly at door. The booth was quaint and tight to get in it. The BBQ jackfruit sandwich with... More

What awesome food and fast and friendly service. We loved everything we ordered - focaccia with spicy marinara sauce, pierogies, endive salad, sandwiches, wrap, pasta. Desserts were excellent too especially the Mexican chocolate pie. The $3 Happy Hour wine choices were a plus too. The only menu is the board as you enter - so decide what you want to... More

Vegetarian food is not all that easy to find in these parts, but Ipanema stands up to the task. Great food, wonderful atmosphere. Loved the mains and the desert.

We were running a little late to a show, so we only had time for a couple of appetizers…service was FABULOUS - we told them we were on a tight schedule and they accommodated us perfectly. We both got the carrot-ginger-mushroom soup, spicy and tasty! We both also got the (vegan, gluten-free) Mushroom Risotto Balls with shredded brussels sprouts and... More

We found this restaurant on tripadvisor since we had recently cut a lot of meat and dairy out of our diet. The food was very good, well thought out and presented. The dessert was out of this world! The atmosphere was also neat because it is in the lower floor of a three story building, and the decor is very... More

We ended up here after wandering up to an Italian place with the word squid in the name, saw the crowds, panicked and turned around. Ipanema Cafe is in a basement dungeon. I love dark, dingy places, so it worked for me. There's a patio outside, but I personally cannot eat in 90 degree heat without being ill. The menu... More

I like the word dive to describe this place in its atmosphere. The food selections are are great. I really enjoyed the vegan ruben! If you are looking for a place with good fast vegetarian and vegan food, this is it.
