The big question

OK here is today's BIG question: What would you put up with for some of the best Italian food you will ever experience in your lifetime, in RVA or in even Italy?" ... . So think about that for a second... Would you put up with so-so service, a very loud and busy atmosphere, weird music, the... read more

I have been to many Italian Restaurants, and my expectations based on the reviews had me expecting an awesome flavor full experience. It fell very short. The atmosphere is what you expect from the outside, the service was fine (no issues here), but the food for all of the hoopla didn't deliver. It was better then Olive Garden, but even... More

First of all we have been going here since the week it opened...always LOUD and CROWDEDNESS so one must be aware of this prior to entering!! The food is basically Italian and our daughter-in-law who is Italian says it is the very best! The service is chaotic, rushed and one feels they do not "give a hoot". BUT it is... More

Probably the best place in Richmond to get enough garlic to keep the vampires at bay for at least a week or two. Zu's has been here forever it seems, it looked virtually the same when I first visited nearly 20 years ago. Hey, when you're doing it right, why change? Recommend the Zuppa de Pesce and anything with the... More

Yes, you will likely have to wait for a table most nights and there is not really much space in which to do so. Yes the servers can act like they are doing you a favor in acknowledging your existence. They have been known to interrupt one mid-order and return to the kitchen as orders become available. (On the plus... More

Well, I still haven't eaten at this restaurant. After waiting in line for over half an hour for it to open with a party of seven, we were told all the tables were full because there were two large tables reserved for larger parties. Who knew they took reservations?! I've never seen that anywhere. It's stand in line and wait... More

Amazing fresh Italian food in a restaurant that you have to wait outside for maybe an hour. However, when the stars come to Richmond they go to Mamma Zu's (i.e., Tom Hanks, Bruce Springsteen were recent visitors). The food creations are very, very good and worth the wait, unless it is raining or snowing outside!

Mamma Zu's consistently delivers both delicious food and a unique dining experience. While the head waiter is not all smiles, he is efficient and the staff are always courteous in answering questions that you may have. It's a tight space with all the people waiting for tables in any nook they can find, but it's all part of experience, and... More

We came to Richmond for the Anthem Marathon. Two years ago we were here for the same event and ate at Edo's Squid -That was a big mistake. We wish we knew about Mamma Zu's. When we arrived we thought GPS took us to the wrong place. The restaurant is in a residential neighborhood. From the outside it looks dark... More
