Food is excellent. I'm used to the experience which can be poor for some people. At peak hours (6pm to 830pm) the wait can be quite long, as in hour+ on Friday and Saturday. The maitre'd does not like to be asked about how long the wait is. You can only order multiple quantities of 4 entrees for large parties... More

I think it is part of their style. Awesome food but bad service. Food is quick and high quality but the wait staff has no TLC. It seems as if this is planned.

Hands down best restaurant in Richmond. New York would be proud to have it. The food is french and robust and great value. Not everyone will like the neighborhood or the "ambience". Also no decaf or light beer (we have our standards) and they only take cash and American Express. Reservations for 6 or more only.

I have been eating in this restaurant since it opened, and it is still my favorite! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I always bring out of town folks here and all agree, Mamma's rocks! Funky. Delicious. Garlic goodness. Be prepared to wait. It's worth it.

I really enjoyed the food quality. The quantities were average. However the atmosphere is of a fraternity house basement. My favorite was the cannoli. I would go back to get the Cannoli for carry out. The service at the table was excellent, however since they don't take reservations you had to wait over an hour, the bar is only 4... More

This jewel of a restaurant is not someplace you happen upon; it is only found with intention. Both inside and out, it appears unassuming. However, the food is anything but. I have dined here twice and each meal was awesome! Once the food arrived, there was little conversation to be had since the only words my dining companions and I... More

Came down to Richmond for a youth wrestling tournament and got a tremendously pleasant surprise. We were guided to Mamma Zu's through a family member who lives close by and I can say it was one of the best recommendations I've ever received. The food was awesome and the portions were outrageous.

Simple. This food is amazing. Authentic Italian. A true hole in the wall- best secret in Richmond. The best Italian I have ever had. But be forewarned, the service is mediocre at best. The same guy has been the doorman for years and he's not the most pleasant human being you'll meet. It's cash only and no reservations. But don't... More

I've been to Mamma Zu's twice, and both times it has been very good. Maybe I'm not an Italian lover of the first degree, but I would not wait an hour-plus for a table, though. Getting there at 5:30 is the way to go. And even then, they were still out of the meat lasagna the last time I was... More
