Everyone raves about this place but just didn't get it. It's good Italian food but not extraordinary. Very small and loud. A little over priced and doesn't take credit cards (a while back). I'd go with friends but wouldn't suggest it.

We first want to MamaZu's a couple of years ago with some friends who had eaten there before. We were forewarned about outside of the restaurant, the unfriendly wait staff and told not to ask too many questions. We had a wonderful dinner that night and many more since then. My husband and I decided to have dinner there this... More

I LOVE Mamma Zu's so much. I named this review "Old School Italian" because the atmosphere seems like the type of place The Godfather himself would eat at. It's very simple and by simple I mean not insanely fancy and "over the top" as many Italian restaurants are. They have by far the greatest Eggplant Parmesean you'll ever eat. The... More

Bottom Line Up Front: Absolutely delicious food. Very casual atmosphere. I no longer live in Richmond, so l can only visit this restaurant when I am visiting the city. But, it is on the list! Two of us went to supper. At 5:45pm on a Saturday night there was already a waiting list to be seated. I put my name... More

We have lived in Richmond for 3 years and for 3 years I have heard that Mamma Zu's was a restaurant we definitely had to go to. Somehow we didn't get around to it until last week. We almost drove past it, it looked so much like a dive that if we didn't have the address and see the faint... More

Food is excellent. I'm used to the experience which can be poor for some people. At peak hours (6pm to 830pm) the wait can be quite long, as in hour+ on Friday and Saturday. The maitre'd does not like to be asked about how long the wait is. You can only order multiple quantities of 4 entrees for large parties... More

I think it is part of their style. Awesome food but bad service. Food is quick and high quality but the wait staff has no TLC. It seems as if this is planned.

Hands down best restaurant in Richmond. New York would be proud to have it. The food is french and robust and great value. Not everyone will like the neighborhood or the "ambience". Also no decaf or light beer (we have our standards) and they only take cash and American Express. Reservations for 6 or more only.

I have been eating in this restaurant since it opened, and it is still my favorite! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I always bring out of town folks here and all agree, Mamma's rocks! Funky. Delicious. Garlic goodness. Be prepared to wait. It's worth it.

I really enjoyed the food quality. The quantities were average. However the atmosphere is of a fraternity house basement. My favorite was the cannoli. I would go back to get the Cannoli for carry out. The service at the table was excellent, however since they don't take reservations you had to wait over an hour, the bar is only 4... More
