If you like Ethiopian food this is the place

But if you want something different than give it a try. I strongly recommend the vegetable dishes over the meat dishes. The vegetables were great. The meat dishes we tried were just OK.... More

We had a friend from Ethiopia that used to cook traditional meals and Addis brings back those memories. A different way to eat--all hands and very communal--but extremely tasty and fun. Go with a large group and try everything. Some spicy, some savory, all good. Preparation time can be somewhat long so order appetizers. Service has been excellent every time... More

We love Ethiopian food and reckon that an Ethiopian restaurant shows a city has arrived as a place to eat. "Addis" is one of a string of restaurants close to the Farmers' Market in historic Shokoe Bottom close to the Canal Walk. We treated ourselves to lunch, ordering the vegetable combination (six items) and the lamb alicha wat. My wife... More

Go out on a limb and try something new - what a wonderful little place in downtown Richmond -close to the historic rail station. Just put yourself in their hands if you go - they may serve you traditional Kifto with injera bread or maybe Goden Ribs - all of it very different, flavourful and served with a smile -... More

We have been there three times and really enjoyed it each time. This Ethiopian restaurant provides a truly unique experience. Our daughter is gluten-free and the injera is gluten-free. The food is served on a large platter sized injera bread that holds multiple dishes. Additional injera comes in rolls that can be torn and used to pick up the food... More

Addis is a very authentic Ethiopian restaurant in Richmond's Shocco Slip district. Ethiopian cuisine is based on the unique injira bread which is used as a utensil to eat a variety of spicy meat and vegetarian stews. One eats with the fingers. If Ethiopian dining is new to you, just jump right in!

We normally frequent Havana 59 across the street (also excellent), but it was closed. We saw the sign and, being adventurous and hungry, we passed on the neighboring diner and Thai places on either side. Best decision of the entire day!! The food here is phenomenal and the special way to eat Ethiopian food is fascinating. The lamb and chicken... More

We have only had Ethiopian food once before and decided to try Addis based on the reviews. We were not disappointed! The food was wonderful. The hostess helped us make selections. My husband chose two lamb and one beef dish and I chose 3 vegetable sides. I do not like lamb, but I LOVED both lamb dishes!! Our favorite vegetable... More

I love Ethiopian food, so I seek restaurants wherever I travel. Found Addis through reviews on Yelp and Trip Advisor for Richmond. Was so impressed with the fantastic food that I had dinner there two nights in a row! Not only are the entrees delicious and the injera perfect, but they serve awaze sauce and powdered mimita spice on the... More

We found this restaurant while on a brief visit to Richmond. One member of our group had lots of dietary restriction (gluten free, vegan, tree nut allergy). It was perfect for us! Many food options and everything was very tasty. (one member commented that her lamb was a 'bit tough', but otherwise it was all praise). The only other item... More
