Seriously, one of the best meals I've ever had.

I live in Ohio but am from Arkansas. We are visiting just north of Richmond for a business trip, so we decided to look for catfish. Googled it, and found this place. Thank goodness. The food is amazing. And being from the south, we know amazing. Let's start off with the first thing we... read more

Let me start by saying that I did not pick the restaurant but my husband did and he was on spot. Felt as if I had been coming here for years by the greeting from the hostess and this was one of the best meals I have eaten in Richmond. So many restaurants could learn from the staff as to... More

Perfect slogan for this gem! Had lunch today and cannot figure out why it took 5 years to find this place! Located in Jackson Ward in Richmond. It is a small restaurant with bar; the people and the food speak volumes! The catfish, pork chops, mac n cheese and yams were all delicious; cooked to perfection. The owner and general... More

Went here with some friends for dinner and had an excellent experience. Our group must have tried 75% of the menu and everything was delicious. We enjoyed fried steak and fried catfish! The service was also fantastic. Everything was brought out promptly and there were some great suggestions on food from the waitstaff.

Let me start with we waited 1 hour and 45 min to be seated after a woman at front door said it was only 1 hr wait. All the staff seemed unhappy and irritated that they worked there. The only time anyone was friendly was when check came and they wanted a tip. Now to the food. The Chicken was... More

I took my college son there for lunch; get there early-small and a line. The food was amazing, the country fried steak with peppers, the corn bread, the greens, fried chicken all were perfect. The sides were large, split them with the group. The staff also were friendly and efficient. The price was cheap; they could raise it a lot... More

While it might not be the most heart healthy with a lot of fried food, it's great for your mental health to enjoy great food and hospitality.

Mama J's is a no brainier if you're looking for a good soul food restaurant in Richmond! Everything about it is fabulous except the space! There is not nearly enough! Everything on the menu is really good! Watch out for the drinks at the bar if you have to go back to work! Better forget your diet if you attempt... More
