5 stars for the great staff and fried catfish, although the greens were too salty for me. FYI the seafood salad is macaroni and some small shrimp. get here early < 7, there's only about 10 tables!

There are many, many fine restaurants in Richmond and environs. Mama J's deserves to be ranked with the best of them. There I had fried catfish for a starter, done perfectly. The Pork Chop entrée was a sheer delight. The obviously home-made Devil's Food Cake with Strawberry Icing was almost beyond description. The staff were warm and welcoming. They could... More

Very clean, excellent service, and excellent food! You must try the catfish sandwich, it was truly outstanding! I will return again.

After three trips I decided to finally review....just GREAT. I usually get the fried chicken with some mac & cheese and greens, but have ventured into the fried pork chop. It is all very good food and very price competitive. I also really like the friendly staff, I've eaten at the bar and had delightful discussions. Also, save room for... More

Beautiful decor, pleasant staff, lively atmosphere, plus excellent food. Best coleslaw I ever ate. Don't miss this place!

My very first time to try South cuisine, and it was absolutely wonderful. I checked the box for 'yes' in answer on the question if this was one of the best meals I've ever had in a restaurant. Our waitress was very courteous and helpful and up for a bit of a chat. The catfish was amazing, and it seemed... More

Great place. In expensive and home cooked food. Not a dinner but rather a restaurant with a nice bar and good, homemade food. Best fried chicken anywhere. Also the greens and green beans are great. Try it for an unusual place.

This restaurant was recommended to me by the Hilton Gardens Inn shuttle van driver. I checked Trip Advisor and found it was rated highly as well and so decided to try it. It was an all-around great experience! I love the décor because it feels very vintage. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. The staff members greet apparent regulars and... More

Mama J's Kitchen is the real deal southern! Call it southern, down-home, or soul food, this place does it well. Get there early to get a table in this small but beautiful restaurant. The waiters and waitresses (is it even PC to seperate them anymore?) are all so friendly and helpful. I have to add that they are all gorgeous... More

The coconut cake is to die for. We ended up purchasing the entire cake. There was a blackout in the neighborhood during my first visit. The staff/service never skipped a beat. Because they maintained their composure so everyone else. No one got up to leave or appeared alarmed. We used the flashlight on our cellphones and continued to enjoy our... More
