Brunch or lunch this causal urban restaurant provides excellent food with fast, friendly service. As a 40 year veteran of commercial cooking I know when an establishment is "doing the dance" right. These people are right on the money, they hit every note, they knock it out of the park. The Black Sheep is well worth our time and money.

It's always a pleasure to have lunch at the Black Sheep on a day off from work. I've never been disappointed. The fish tacos on the 4th of July were heavenly. Fresh from the broiler grouper smothered with crispy greens and those little red peppadew peppers (that I've never seen anywhere else) with grilled corn off the cob, chow chow... More

Having seen "The Black Sheep" some years ago on a food show, it really made an impression and I really wanted to eat there if I ever was in VA. Many others have reviewed the Black Sheep, so I will be brief. First, parking will likely be challenging. My wife and I visited during a week day mid-afternoon, and we... More

By "funky" I mean that in a good way. The Black Sheep is off the beaten path and the farthest restaurant you can find from a "chain." Food was terrific! Had the asparagus which was delicious with a tasty sauce. The sandwiches are Huge -- I requested a half sandwich and could have shared it! I can only imagine that... More

I go here about three times a year when I can get a casual day at work. If you are rushed for time don't do this place. Given its popularity and the small size of the building there will always be a 10 minute or so wait. In addition, while staff is decent they will almost always take their time... More

An excellent collection of main dishes and sandwiches. Since it was lunch, we opted for the sandwiches and had two half (each 12 in long) of the USS Brooklyn and the USS Wabash and both were absolutely delicious. You will have plenty left over to take home as the servings are very generous. Big selection of beers. Go with a... More

The sandwiches were amazing. We tried the Virginian with the chicken livers and the turkey and bacon one. Both sandwiches had a ton of flavor and it was worth the drive and the wait. The staff was rude, un attentive and upset if you ask for mayonnaise. This place would be over the top amazing if the had staff that... More

A hidden out of the way restaurant which is BIG on taste. The group ordered the Panini (sundried tomato focaccia panini with caramelized onions, black olive tapenade, arugula, & goat cheese), the Wabash sub (Lemon & garlic marinated strip steak with white bean & parsnip hummus, topped with chopped romaine, pickled red onion, tomato & feta) and the freshest salad... We try a new restaurant each week for our date night. This week we decided to try Black Sheep as we have heard amazing reviews. Long story short, everything was amazing. We started with the 2 soups of the day - black bean and potato leek soup. Both were equally delicious. Our waitress (who was amazing...best service we've had in... More
