Good pasta but poor main courses. We ate dinner four times here, as it was part of a package. Plenty of other restaurants closeby, which we would have preferred to try. Poor presentation of main courses, pork and lettuce, swordfish and lettuce, no other trimmings. Fruit dessert half a nectarine thinly sliced and spread out. If you do eat here,... More

food was fine, lovely location, but apparently the staff was not quite happy with the amount of food we ordered (bottle of wine, two pasta dishes, salad, coffee and desert), and therefore decided to buff up our bill, by increasing the routine cover chargers and a couple of euros here and there added to menu prices...

We had dinner here two times during our stay in Castellammare. Both times we had great food, and were served by friendly and informal people. We especially recommend their tuna steaks and sea food in general.

Il Gitano is a very good choice if you want to taste a typical cuisine of the region and not to pay a fortune. Prices are very ok, food is delicious, and our lovely host did everything to make us come back the day after. We equally enjoyed pasta, pizza and seafood. You won't regret anything you try, but local... More

A lovely evening for the four of us, my wife and I and 2 teenagers. The staff catered for the teenage taste for pizza e patatine while we enjoyed a lovely meal. My highlight was zuppe di cozze, the most generous bowl of mussels in a salsa piccante! We also enjoyed mixed seafood and sea bass with mixed grilled vegetables... More

We both had a really nice meal in this restaurant, I had the steak which was cooked to perfection, my husband had a local dish of Sardines and Macaroni, absolutely delicious.

Wonderful mussels, best pizza we had in Sicily, the red wine of the house was superb, the location is cozy, no other tourists while we were there, our lovely host Silvana chose great desserts... all for a surprisingly low cost!

They specialize in mussels (cosse), and make a great paella. The tuna tartare, the branzino (sea bass), and various seafood pastas were all great. Friendly staff and chef. Choose the house red wine, because it is just excellent. Their after-dinner drinks, grappa and the local liqueur were also outstanding.

It turned out to be our lucky day. Looking for somewhere for dinner,, we walked out the front door of our hotel, turned right and walked across the piazza to find il Gitano. There was no terrasse (terrace/patio) but we decided to give it a try. And were we ever glad we did. Glad enough to return a second night... More
