Great place to stop if going thru town! Ok service, quaint decor, excellent chicken fried steaks and chicken. Don't forget to order onion rings!

We always take a road trip from our lake house in Lakeway every year -- trying to hit a new Hill Country town to check it out. We were headed to Fredericksburg and if you know the area, you need to take a left onto 281 at a light in Johnson City. At that exact intersection--there is a small diner... More

We stopped at Hill Country Cupboard on our way to the LBJ tourist sites. The menu has breakfast all day and an assortment of sandwiches, steaks, chicken, etc. Prices are reasonable. I had the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and green beans. The breading was nicely seasoned and not overly greasy. Gravy was good, as were the potatoes and beans.... More

Stopped for lunch while traveling. Typical small town restaurant, not meaning anything bad about that. The fried mushroom appetizer was very good. I ordered a jalapeño reuben sandwich, I think that was the name. Server returned and said they were out of the meat needed for it. I changed to a jalapeño patty melt which was ok, nothing special. The... More

I drove in from San Antonio to meet friends for breakfast. My friends, as well as I, enjoyed our food. I found the breakfast burrito very tasty, and my friends enjoyed the pancakes.

We stopped here for breakfast one day last week. It's been here a long time and doesn't look like much from the outside or the inside...very old. We ordered biscuits, gravy and eggs and they were average at best. Their coffee was pretty good though. The waitress was friendly, but didn't check to see if we needed refills. Probably wouldn't... We stopped here after touring the LBJ Ranch. Worst decision we've ever made. Even the menus are greasy and water marked, pasted on ordinary brown paper bags. We were seated by a surly teenage boy. Food is terrible and the whole place looks old and dirty. After getting our ice tea we should have just paid and left. Poor decision... More

Note: I will be review number 43. There is one other review by a local also giving it a terrible/one star review. There are so many other good restaurants in town, please let us be represented by them. I cannot believe HCC is #4 on TripAdvisor, and actually recommended by ANY food critic. It has got to be the location... More

The sign up front said best chicken fried steak in the world, my wife fell for the add and tried it. The lied I would give it a average mark for the CFS but the first bite choked me with the coarse chunk of black pepper, if they would of toned down that it would of been an ok chicken... More
