a happy accident

We had stopped in the area looking for a completely different restaurant and found out it was now out of business. Wandering up the block a bit we saw the All Star Sandwich Bar and decided to give it a try. I got the Mr Miyagi, my wife got the tomato soup and grilled cheese and we split an order... read more

Seriously good food! The beautifully cooked rare roast beef sandwich stacked high on a onion type roll topped with caraway seed and lightly sprinkled coarse salt was the absolute best beef sandwich I can attest to as a butcher's daughter. The onion rings were lightly breaded and crispy delicious. It was a taste that I have witnessed since the days... More

I've lived here for two weeks and I've already been here twice. Their sandwiches live up to their name. So far I've had the Mr. Miyagi and the Nonna. Very different sandwiches, but I like them both. My boyfriend ordered the Mr. Miyagi the first time and raved about it, so I tried it the second time, but I knew... More

We arrived to a full restaurant on a holiday, but were seated quickly. I have been in food service for nearly 50 years, but was amazed by the quick meal service. We shared the hot pepper hush puppies (but not too hot for me--I don't like spicy food) and tempera dipped broccoli with two sauces that complimented it well. I... More

Truly, eating at All Star reinforces the feeling that we're living in the golden age of the sandwich. Always a very creative selection of specials (Funky and Extra Funky), and a rotating day-of-the-week special. Don't ignore the standard menu, either! From their original association with East Coast Grill, they also specialize in some very hot/spicy offerings. Also a small but... More

You'll find a wide range of interesting-sounding offerings at All Star. I'm not qualified to comment specifically on anything other than the muffuletta, as that's what I've had both times I've been there, over an interval of a couple of years. The bread is excellent. I would like to have seen a bit more of the olive salad and more... More

I felt a little obligated to go here because the person we were staying with recommended it. At first I was thinking "oh just another sandwich place"... But wow. These are truly awesome sandwiches. We went back again the next day just to get yet another sandwich from the awesomely unique menu. A definite must try. And go for something... More

If you love sandwiches, this is your place. The food is delicious. The specials are usually the best. (There's one for every day of the week.) French fries are good too (thin and crispy) - and the appetizers are fun. I most recently had some good deviled eggs and hush puppies. The staff are also great at giving recommendations if... More

So I live in the UK and the wife in Boston. Every last meal we have together before I fly back is at the All Star. Their sandwiches are amazing and if anyone is in the neighbourhood, drop in!

Wasn't sure what to expect when we arrived at noon on Sunday and were the only ones there but the food and service were very good. Had the roast beef sandwich and it was excellent. We got sides of fries and spicy onion rings. Rings were hot but delicious. Waiter was helpful and friendly. All at a good price!
