This restaurant manages to both comfortable and exotic and, thus, a special occasion and a regular outing place. The colors and spacing of the room are subtle and wonderful. Love Helmand! I've been many times -- the decor is very warm and colorful. They have a fireplace, rugs on the floor colorful paintings. Great place for a date or large groups. The food is delicious and there are many options for vegetarians.

This was the first time we tried Afghan food, so we can't judge authenticity. But we enjoyed a great meal. The vegetables were super tasty, delicious home made bread and the lamb was the best ever. The service was friendly and fast. We'll definitely go back on a next visit to Cambridge.

We were looking for a place to eat on Christmas Eve in Cambridge and found the Helmand open. Thank goodness! And what a great meal! This is a fairly large restaurant with a very nice Afghan decor. The food was excellent as was the service. Both my wife and I had lamb dishes with rice and they were excellent. The... More

A bit skeptical initially to eat in Afghan kitchen restaurant (fine Afghanistan cousine???). Wrong. Very good service (we were there on Sunday). Incredible flavors. Generous portions. Meat, fish, rice, vegetables-best quality. Very decent wine list Will go back, no question.

We were there after coming back for our trip from Turkey, and we were a little disappointed for food was to plain, lack of flavor, honestly place is beautiful and almost sure you can elevate Food to another level. Home made bread and sauces were terrific! We sure will get them another chance.

I went on business and thoroughly enjoyed dinner there. We booked that afternoon (midweek) and got a table fine, though it did fill up. Only feedback I'd provide to the restaurant was that as we were put in a room at the back we were forgotten for about 10 mins when we arrived. Otherwise, the service was excellent.

Our last visit to the Helmand was six years ago and as soon as we took a bite of the warm flatbread we wondered how we could have been gone for so long! The bread is served with a trio of dips and we heartily ate all the bread in the basket! The menu hasn't changed and that is a... More

This restaurant is such a treasure chest of dining delights. We started with the Kaddo, a pumpkin appetizer with garlic yogurt sauce and a ground beef sauce -- TO DIE FOR followed by Shorwa, a delicious lamb soup with fresh vegetables. My entree was very special -- Chappli Kabab -- two ground tenderloin patties -- tender, moist and accompanied by... More

We went on recommendation of friends . The food was good but on Saturday night they clearly want to turn the tables over as quickly as possible . They had us in and out - 2 courses and drinks in 55 minutes . Tried to order the appetizer separately but this is not allowed and so we got the entree.just... More
