Delicious delicious food

We were on a road trip visiting Boston and came across to Cambridge to see MIT and Harvard. We were craving South Asian/Middle Eastern food and this afghani restaurant definitely fit the bill. I was excited when a recent business dinner listed The Helmand as the venue. This excitement quickly faded upon arrival. It was a spectacular evening in Boston with cool temperatures, so our dinner group decided to walk to the restaurant. When we arrived, it was beyond stuffy - it was hot - to an unappetizing point. The place was crowded... More

We liked everything we tried, but service could have been better. We felt the server had too many tables to attend. So, even with good intentions, he just could not keep up. But if you are looking for good Afghan food, Helmand is the place for you. The Eggplant dish deserves special mention. It was quite simple yet very tasty.... More

I've eaten here before and this time a group of us went. The service is quick but not forceful and they're more than happy to walk you through the menu. Quality is good and well executed plus it's good value for what you get. If you go here be adventurous. They're more than happy to put a variety of mains... More

The atmosphere was wonderfully subdued, the service impeccable, and the food fantastic. Cannot wait to try their other restaurant in San Francisco next month.

If you're bored with the standard fare served in most restaurants, even many of the good ones, try The Helmand. Each dish is unique in its interesting flavors. Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. I would have preferred beer over wine with this type of cuisine, but you can't ask for everything.

Our hotel recommended this restaurant. We had not tried Afghan food and were so glad we did. We tried a spiced potato starter, and had ground beef kabab (special) and a chicken curry with rice entree. Portions were very large and tasty. Came with three types of sauces on the side. Felt like a cross between middle eastern and indian... More

Terrific food consistently. Hot bread cooked in a real fired up oven. Love The Helmand. Have not had a bad meal here ever and have been dining here for 10+years.

Ate here with six friends and we represented seven different countries; everyone enjoyed their meals and this restaurant. We started with the cooked pumpkin as an appetizer. I had the vegetarian special which included eggplant, pumpkin, spinach, and something resembling small okra, and spiced rice (see picture). Delicious! Others had the beef, chicken, and lamb dishes and everyone was satisfied.... More
