Good Food But No Ambience

The service was attentive, the food was very good (except for the overly salty steak fries we had to send back), but the place has the ambience of a basement apartment - dark, claustrophobic, below ground. The menu is limited and many of the dishes seem pretentious - what is sumac pudding or... read more

We dined at Ten Tables to celebrate a birthday and an anniversary. "Line caught" halibut was dry and tasteless. Lobster crepe was better but still not very flavorful. Appetizers were good. Waiter was personable and efficient. Hostess was rather unwelcoming. Table support staff awkward and intrusive.-- not rude, just inexperienced or untrained. Chairs are too low so that table tends... We visited Ten Tables recently and were amazed at the rude nature of the staff. We asked for our waiter to describe various wines and add some details to the specials. The waiter was unable to describe other wines and seemed offended that we were not going to order the wine that was suggested. We asked for assistance by someone... More

Recently, we (eight of us) had occasion to dine at Ten Tables to celebrate a Harvard graduation. Ten Tables was her choice of place to dine. This is a small, intimate restaurant, that, in fact, can have just ten tables, depending on how they configure the seating. The staff were very polite, attentive, and professional. We were waited on by... More

Yes, I know the name of the restaurant should be a clue but this place is small and tables are jammed into one another. Menu and food were just okay. Expected better. Fish dry etc. Prices too high. Won't be back due to feeling like being in cellar with strangers, eating mediocre food and paying too much for it.

A delicious and creative meal served with just the right amount of attention. Fresh ingredients, with an eye toward flavor and texture combinations. We particularly liked the halibut, paired with roasted sunchokes and saffron gnocchi. Very nice wine list, well organized for easy use. On the romantic side, if you're looking for a quiet spot to stare into your better... More

4 of us had a peaceful, cozy dinner. The appetizers were interesting and good. The chicken was tender and tasty. The steak was a bit tough. The fries were delicious and enjoyed by all. We would go back.

There were about forty of us, the maximum number this lovely little restaurant can hold, for a family gathering. They opened for lunch specifically to serve us for which we are very thankful. The luncheon was a nice assortment of farm-to-table meats and cheeses, with a couple of salads to choose from. The menu board gave us the name of... More

My review is unusual in that the restaurant opened earlier in the day to provide a luncheon/brunch for a private party of 45 guests. (They do not usually open for lunch). The food and service were superb. The restaurant is perfect for this size group as it felt intimate and we didn't have to share the space with other luncheon... More

We had a pleasant evening meal last week-end at Ten Tables near Harvard Square. Our meals were very good, and special kudos for the Green Garlic Veloute appetizer, and the line-caught Atlantic Halibut entree. The restaurant occupies the basement of an apartment building, which confers a dimly lighted and somewhat cramped ambiance. In fairness, Mrs. Gyr considered the atmosphere "cozy".... More
