Great food, but the ambiance makes the experience only average

Food was delicious and quite original. Service was ok, although quite slow on the wine (three times). BUT it is not a cozy place, tables are made of ugly pine wood and too close together, chairs are average, light needs to improve and the overall decor is rather basic. A shame but easy to take care... read more

I had heard from my foodie friends that was THE place for haute cuisine in Boston. The venue is tiny - the tables are elbow to elbow. We were placed just outside the kitchen - the bustle throughout the meal was very distracting (we must have looked like the out-of-staters we were and did not rate a more intimate setting).... More

Went here by chance, ended up having a spectacular meal!! We split a second course dish of fried oysters, so many different delicious flavors, little spicy, salty and sweet bread underneath. I had a filet and my husband had fish (a type of fish I've never heard of, they waitress said they have fish overnighted from the South) which were... More

We came here with our friends to celebrate their anniversary and called the restaurant ahead of time because of some food allergies. The restaurant was very accommodating and assured us that they could change things around on the menu, which they did. Our party of four all got the prix fix menu and you might think for a nice place... More

Hungry Mother is located in Cambridge and has a very limited and eclectic menu. They have a tasting menu (3 courses for a set price - I think it was about $65pp). We got the deviled eggs which came with only one egg and a ham spread and bread. It was pretty good. I got a white fish which was... More

unusual cuisine for Bostonians. Interesting combinations, good wine list. Excellent service. The restaurant was small and cozy, especially given nasty weather outside. Proximity of parking ~ 50 yards was certainly a plus

Wow ... where to start. Loved every part of every meal. The Honey Tabasco Fried Quail and the creamy grits with cheddar and bacon? to.die.for. yes, it's pricey but the service was amazing and the food even more so. Perfect for foodies, maybe a little much for kids. When I make it back to Boston, I'll be stopping here, for... More

Been to Hungry Mother several times and it has been consistently excellent. Went this past weekend and enjoyed it immensely. Had the beef tongue app (I know, I know, but you've GOT to try it) which was great. I'm still dreaming of the damned catfish I had. Cooked to perfection, but that brown butter sauce! Fantastic. My partner had the... More

I went here in November 2014 for my birthday and I was absolutely amazed. We did the 5 course tasting menu, which was a little too much but I ate everything anyway. The service was on point and the food was delicious. Everything was nicely prepared and when it was served it was the perfect temperature. I would def go... More

Small restaurant, you walk by the kitchen to get to tables. Kitchen looked very clean and organized. I had sweetbread appetizer. Very nice. Then I had Pork Shoulder for entree. The dessert was a chocolate terrene. It was outstanding. The service was great and we enjoyed our time there. I had an issue with the pork, but the manager made... More
