My daughter lives nearby so we visited on my recent trip to MA. We both lived for many years in SW VA (from whence the restaurant gets its name) and loved their take on Southern food. The boiled peanuts, a family favorite, are enough to make me recommend it. Everything was delicious and although the ingredients were familiar (blackeyed peas,... More

Went here with friends. Corn bread good but don't eat too much of it. Starters - basil/pea soup with crab and the beef tongue were both very tasty. Mains - chicken was a little bland but well cooked, crusted fish (can't remember what fish but one of their signature ones), was really delicious. My friend had the hangar steak and... More

Let's start with the basics: parking in Cambridge is terrible (unless you have a permit). The host was very nice and had a table waiting for us. The waiter was a bit odd, but it was unclear if he/she was just socially uncomfortable or aloof. The cornbread was a nice start with a fresh salad, although nothing special. The Bavette... More

The atmosphere is very nice - decorated in a simple, rustic-chic style, which was lovely. The staff were professional and the menu was full of tempting options. We ordered wine and cocktails (all excellent) and an appetizer plate for the table, which was wonderful (something with quail eggs on top) and I had the beef, which was cooked perfectly (medium-rare).... The crafty cocktails here are delicious and will rock your world. Their “new “ Southern, gourmet food is scrumptious, fresh and imaginative. The restaurant is a tad small but their food exhibits big and bold flavors.

I am so happy that we came to this restaurant on a recent trip to Boston. The food was unusual and absolutely delicious. A real stand out. We had the scallops, corn bread, chicken, and catfish. Each dish was pretty much flawless and we were stuffed by the end. Although it is not a cheap restaurant, I thought the prices... More

My girlfriend brought me here for my birthday last night and I was blown away. The beef tongue appetizer was one of the best things I've ever eaten, and the menu on the whole was amazing. Highly recommended

We were blown away by the food here. I was expecting southern comfort food - lots of starch and light on flavors other than salt. But the food was creative and delicious and not at all heavy. My husband and I were glad we ordered different items so we could sample more of the menu and we were more and... More

We were there on a Sat. early, and we got a table near the bar through sheer luck. If you want to go there on a popular night make a reservation weeks in advance - this restaurant has received a lot of favorable publicity. The cuisine is Southern; I'm not an expert, but the food was very good. The restaurant... More
