You have to start by understanding that this area is the real food larder of Italy with almost everything on a typical menu produced within a tight radius of Brescia. Meat, Cheese, Wine, Rice, Herbs, Salads, Spices. If you are vegetarian, a nutty pasta dish...is well worth it as the hazelnuts and walnuts around here are great.
This restaurant was as hard to spot as a lot of places here. (we had directions from our hosts at Palazzo Novello).Subtle, understated, no bright signs, just two illuminated glass bottles and a wine barrel outside, but once inside, thoroughly modern, slightly quirky and a great use of the long narrow space, including the cellar (very nice and decorated with bottles of wine everywhere)
Terrace out back but a bit chilly at sundown in April. Cellar is atmospheric and service is helpful. One waiter spoke Austrian/German and teh girls have a little english. Good uncomplicated menu. Antipasti is huge (enough for four) and other local specialities are all good. Salad tasted like fresh salad, I had the Ossobucco, it was excellent. A real Lombardy speciality and you get it on a bed of milanese risotto with plenty of Saffron. A bottle of prosecco to start and a nice nebbiolo for main.
Very good all round, a favourite of locals and families and a bit out of the town centre. Highly recommended.More
