Owner August Mrozowski is committed to offering all of his guests an exceptional, casual yet elegant, dining experience. A proud supporter of local businesses and local farmers, Augie’s Front Burner also offers catering for parties and special events.August Mrozowski, owner and chef of Augie’s Front Burner, started his culinary career in Springfield at the age of 13. Following in his father’s footsteps, he developed a passion for the culinary arts and worked at the Cafe L'Europe in Sarasota Florida for 19 years. In 1992, August opened his own restaurant, and in 1997 he returned home where he opened Augie’s Front Burner in Springfield. Augie’s overriding desire is to present his guests with the freshest and most interesting products available on the market. A strong supporter of other local businesses, Augie can be spotted weekly in the local farmers’ markets; he makes a point of knowing the best seasonal items that are available and creates his menus around those products. August’s creative flair can clearly be seen when it comes to his food presentation. He believes that fine dining is a multi-sensory experience, and he ensures that each plate is constructed and garnished beautifully so that when it arrives at the table, diner’s are ready to take in a flavorful, texture-filled culinary delight.

A gourmet surprise in Lincoln's hometown

A friend recommended that we go to Augie's if we ever visited Springfield, so when our weekend plans got rained out we decided on a last minute trip to see the Lincoln Museum and dinner at Augie's. We stopped there for a late lunch. Casual but pleasant dining room. On the table there was a sculpture of a flower made out of silverware. We ate hamburgers and our granddaughter had pasta. For dessert: bread pudding. Extensive and good wine list. Good place to have lunch or dinner.

Dined at this Chef owned restaurant for the first time and I was blown away with the taste and originality of the dishes. The first bite puts a smile on your face and it just keeps getting better as you continue. The lamb hand pies were incredible, the El Cubano pork was bursting with flavor and spices, the Cod was... Augie's continues being our go to place in Springfield for delicious food and excellent service. The new menu items are wonderful. We enjoyed the steak taco appetizer and the new variations on salmon and pork tenderloin. Our server was knowledgeable, engaging and thoroughly took care of our needs. The half price wines on Tuesdays are a bonus. Looking forward to... More

We had an excellent lunch here one day. Nice decor on the inside, great service, and great food. We passed this by once, but we were so glad we didn't pass it the second time! Had we been staying in Springfield for a longer time, we would have returned for dinner.

I didn't know what to expect from this restaurant until I saw the menu. Even then, I was a little hesitant because of the offerings. However, when my good arrived, it was delicious and do was my husband's good! The service was excellent and the atmosphere was terrific. I highly recommend it!

We stopped in here on a whim when hunger got the better of us, and we saw people eating outside. We were happy we did. The day we went the place was overrun with Civil War re-enactors, so it was very busy, but also pretty fun to discover a table of generals nearby. We were seated quickly and were greeted... More

We stopped in Augies after the reenactment of lincoln's funeral just across from the Old State Capitol in Springfield. Several reenact orbs of the union generals present were seated but my date and I ate at the bar. The service was prompt, friendly and efficient. The bar features local brews and spirits. My fiancée had the lemonade and vodka special,... More
