Description: Established in 1884, Maldaner's Restaurant and Catering is one of...
Established in 1884, Maldaner's Restaurant and Catering is one of Springfield's finest restaurants. If you have visited The Old State Capitol, Frank Lloyd Wright's Dana-Thomas House or the State Capitol, you can imagine the wonderful celebrations Maldaner's likely was a part of at the turn of the last century and to the present day. Today, under the guidance of Chef-Owner Michael Higgins, Maldaner's respects tradition while offering the best of contemporary American fine dining in our historical setting. Chef Higgins features seasonal local and regional ingredients influenced by Mediterranean composition and preparation. Heirloom vegetables, humanely raised meats and Slow Food all artistically prepared and presented. Welcome to Maldaner's in downtown Springfield. We hope you enjoy your visit each time you dine at Maldaner's.

Relaxing place for a nice lunch

We had read about the iconic Horseshoe Sandwich and had walked to a different restaurant only to find a 15 minute wait. We walked back to Maldaner's and found no wait and a calm, quiet dining room. Service was fast and the food was well-crafted. The horseshoe sandwich is Illinois's answer to... read more

When in Rome, do what the Romans do. When in Springfield, be sure to eat at Maldaner's, which has been doing a lot of things right since 1884. Located in the heart of downtown Springfield at 222 South 6th Street, it features a menu of wonderfully tasting dishes that have made Maldaner's a must stop for locals and tourists for... More

In general the service was great but food did take quite awhile to come out. We were in no hurry though and it was well worth the wait. My fiance had the beef wellington and was supposed to be cooked medium but came out well done but was still awesome. I had the special which was a petite steak coffee... More

Maldaner's and Saputo's are the top of the line public eateries in walking distance to the Capitol. Maldaner's is seasonal American, always fresh and innovative. Reservations are a must when the legislature is in session, as well as on high volume weekends. The chef specials are uniformly inventive and excellent. It is a bit on the noisy side, especially in... More

Our group of 35 had dinner at the same time as another large group. We chose to have a limited menu of four choices for dinner vs. ordering off the menu. The food came out on time, was hot, prepared as requested, and was excellent. The staff was wonderful to work with starting from making the reservation to paying the... More

We ate here the evening of May 1 and really enjoyed it. The food was excellent and they have sufficient variety that my wife - who has celiac and therefore needs gluten- free foods - can also have a really good meal. They had even made a gluten-free morel mushroom pie as an appetizer that she enjoyed! They had a... More

This had soup and sandwitches. The chicken salad and onion soup is great. My friend had the BLT. Beware, that one is giant size. The waitress was polite. The prices aren't very high. Also had cloth tablecloths which was nice.

The Salmon was great but the prime rib and beef Wellington made us have to get out of there as fast as possible so we could get some ice Cream at cold stone down the street. They were nice enough not to charge us for the steaks.Maybe next time it would be better

Really great service by well-trained wait staff, accompanied by very competent dishes. Unusual options like quail and duck breast and leg, Beef Wellington, and more make this place a very nice place to have a lovely dinner. The wine selection is not extensive, but we recommend this restaurant highly.

Their filets will melt in your mouth and they also have great french onion soup. A little pricey but worth it.
