My wife and I love dim sum and we love the selection and value we find when we leave Alaska. You want dim sum in Anchorage? Better head for Charlie's Bakery 'cause you won't find this elsewhere around here. It's good and it's fairly priced. We can recommend better places in Seattle and beyond, but Charlie's is the place to... More

I'm not sure how I could have lived in Anchorage so long and not known about Charlie's. Today I had lunch there and had an excellent Thai Curry Chicken with a sticky bun. The curry was very nice ... probably not one of the best ever, but still a very substantial good! and plenty of food. Other in my party... More

Don't be fooled by the name -- Charlie's Bakery offers the best and most authentic Chinese food in Anchorage (and Alaska, for that matter). Be sure to visit this place on a Saturday, when their full Dim Sum menu is available. Har gow, shu mai, sticky rice steamed in lotus leaves, fried taro balls, ginger chicken, steamed baby bok choy... You walk in and you think it is a bakery, which it is. Then you look on the wall and there is a Chinese food menu. Food was good, ambiance was a table and chairs, but since I was eating alone, who cares. I would go back again, for the food and to try some of the bakery items.

We stopped here after a long drive from Valdez and just wanted something quick and tasty. The service was fast and you have to try the egg tart. Yum!

I had heard from the locals that to get good Chinese food, we needed to go to Charlie's bakery. It is both a bakery and Chinese food. It sounded very odd, but we were very impressed. The food was very good. Our favorite Chinese dish was the pork buns. Our favorite bakery item was the custard bun. Yum! This is... More

This is only place in town with authentic and yummy shumai. The store atmosphere is average, seating is basic, but the food is great! Don't hesitate to try anything on the menu because they really are yummy! Don't forget the dessert! Their cakes are to die for and not too sweet.

We had a super meal (not sure what the reviewer who thought it was terrible was talking about - of course you want genuine Chinese food!). It has few frills, just serves really good food at reasonable prices. The staff were friendly and seemed genuinely pleased to see you (something missing from many more upmarket Alaskan establishments). The food was... More

Its a Bakery, no, its a Restaurant? Well, its both and they do a good job at both. This hole in the wall next to KFC is known to locals for its excellent cuisine and baked goods. Order at the counter and they bring the food to the table. Not fancy, but the food is very good.

Don't be fooled by the name -- Charlie's Bakery has the very best and most authentic Chinese food anywhere in Alaska (and we'd extend that commendation to all Asian food restaurants as well). Like most places that offer great Chinese food, the decor is simple, the seating is basic, it can be rather noisy, and the place is crowded with... More
