Best Gumbo in Anchorage

We frequent the establishment a couple times a month. There are two locations but I prefer the original downtown. A pink house with limited seating. The different bimbos and jambalaya are always consistent. The price is also reasonable. Very original and alway fresh. Can't get past the gumbo to try... read more

The Gumbo House has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants in Anchorage. There are two locations: Downtown and one nearly across the street from the Dimond Center on Old Seward. The Downtown location is small, and the location on Old Seward is larger and can accomodate large groups. The service at both locations is friendly; the Old Seward location... More

So let me start with the fact that I am of Cajun stock, I know the food I was raised on it. Okay so the good, the Po Boys pretty good, I have had the blackened shrimp and andouie. Both satsted good and were done right. Okay on to the Gumbo, I try gumbo at every resteraunt that has it... More

We love this place! I had the blackened shrimp chicken and husband had the barbeque shrimp poboy. Jambalaya and Angel hair pasta are great as well. Great addition to Southside.

Had the bucket of chicken gumbo. Portion was huge! Flavor was fantastic; best I've had outside LA. Prices are extremely reasonable. Highly recommend.

I love this place. Southside location service is slow, but food is same great quality as downtown. Daily special of Po' Boy & Gumbo has hear and flavor.

My husband and I went there for lunch and had to ask the waiter to take our order and then we waited and waited. Our waiter never showed up around us once. I finally asked another waitress if she knew when our order would be up as I had to go back to work. She went and checked and it... More

Excellent Gumbo. Huge portions. Real Andouille. I learned to cook in New orleans and this is the best I've had since leaving (except when I cook) Jambalaya is excellent. Can't wait to try the red beans & rice.

This is one of my family's favorite places for a casual lunch or dinner. My wife and daughter love the po-boys, of which they have a nice variety -- chicken, andouille sausage, shrimp, and several others, plus some special ones at times. They also have great gumbo, tasty jambalaya (although it's more soupy than most), and blackened wings that are... More

We went as a couple and ordered six of the smaller dishes to share tapas-style. Collectively, this is undoubtedly one of the best meals I've had. Every dish was picked with meat - no scrimping - and the taste was terrific, especially the gumbo. For $62 incl drinks - especially when compared to other restaurants in the area - the... More
