Italian Surprise in Ballard

I can only second what several of the previous reviewers have written. The food and service are very good. They have a large wine list and a full bar. Reservations are a must even if you plan to dine early. If you are not familiar with the area, then I recommend driving to it in the daylight to... read more

Popped in for lunch... Sat at the bar... Brent made us a fabulous grapefruit mojito to start. The Dungeness crab ravioli was the bomb.com and I had the fettuccini with prawns. It was light and delicious. The perfect way to get a snack in without weighing yourself down. We will definitely come back again and again.

This restaurant has a lot going for it. There is nice atmosphere, good service and high quality entrees, sides and desserts. We were rather dismayed at the pricey entrees and small portions. We left hungry, actually. Please increase entree portions by 20-30% and we will return.

With an annual trip to Seattle we have built up a collection of favourite places to eat. After an amazing dinner in early 2014 Volterra joined this list. A couple of new members joining our group we had all raved about the Volterra experience. This made it all the more disappointing when returning last week the standard of both food... More

We dined at Volterra during our stop in Seattle on our way back to Portland from our visit to Victoria over Canada Day weekend. We were staying at the Hotel Ballard so it was a short walk to Volterra. We were seated in the garden dining area. My wife ordered the lobster ravioli for her entree. I had the fish... More

Great food and good wine. Gets busy though so make reservations on busy evenings. The menu is pretty much all very good. Wine list is good and decently priced. Parking is hard to find so plan ahead for that.

when I returned from 3 weeks in Tuscany several years ago one of my first meals back was here, I exclaimed it was as good as any I had in Italy. What a difference a few years makes. The food was fine I suppose, but bland and listless. I don't think the menu has changed in several years. That would... More

We like Volterra for its selections and its ambiance. We don't eat boar every day and their's was a taste treat; service was attentive and the room hummed with conversations. Parking can be problematic.

A great find in Ballard. Outstanding, very interesting Italian food in a very, very comfortable environment. We had some kind of special bean appetizer, salumi plate, linguine with clams, lamb ragu and noodles. Very authentic and yet contempo. And then a totally different style of zabaglione. Not your mother's zabaglione but excellent nonetheless. Excellent wine choices (by the glass as... More
