I've been looking for good sushi in the Fremont/Wallingford area for ages and never noticed this basement Japanese restaurant at the corner of Fremont Avenue N. and 36th Street until earlier this week. So a friend and I went back for lunch and are we glad we did that. We both ordered a variety of sushi and all proved to... More

The first thing you will notice about Chiso is that, like its surrounding Fremont neighborhood, it is decidedly unpretentious. The crowded basement space is minimally adorned, with family-sized tables and a bigger than average sushi bar. By contrast, the food is brilliantly prepared and elegantly presented. Start with the miso soup. Here, it's much more than a floury broth with... More

We were visiting Seattle for the first time and spent five nights exploring the various areas. Fremon is known for some unique landmarks and within a block of Chiso is the famous Lenin Statue that was brought originally to Seattle for smelting and somehow found its way here. Also less than two blocks away is the famous Troll Under the... More

Tues 4/23/13, 1:15: Chiso Restaurant/Seattle, Wa: Tried it on a expiring Groupon. Easy 2hr free street parking. Seating a long shape with good lighting, very nice roomy sushi bar, though waiter service a bit rushing, not experience. I counted 3. My selections: miso soup: gave a great start, nicely seasoned with tofu still somewhat crunchy, nicely touch with the added... More

Chiso is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant that also happens to serve excellent sushi and other Japanese food. The ikura nigiri is an example of how fresh their fish is; I am often disappointed at other sushi restaurants because I'm comparing with Chiso's, which is succulent and never squashed. Their hamachi kama is a yummy cooked dish for those who don't... More

If you love Japanese food, this is the place to come! It has a very large menu with some unusual dishes and sushi chefs at the back even at lunch. We always have a hard time deciding what to have. Everything is tasty but I have to go back for the black cod.

One of the best sushi places in the city. The hamachi is great and the chirasi bowls are wonderful. Service is excellent. Go before 7:00 PM or you may have to wait.

Don't get me wrong, I love seafood, especially raw seafood, which is one of the reasons I come to the northwest each fall, to eat fresh seafood. Don't get me wrong, the raw, fresh seafood we ate at Chiso was excellent. But isn't that the case of any sushi restaurant I would choose to go to? Right? Do your research,... More

My wife & I had the house omakase dinner at Chiso last nite - superb. From a wonderful crab miso soup, asparagus-green bean-spinach plate, delicious salmon tartare with salmon roe, "sashimi duck", extraordinarily fresh sushi plate. All very nicely paced and delicious.
