My girlfriend and I worked in Alaska over the summer for a cruise company and enjoyed finding all the best places to eat in our ports. We stumbled upon Jewel Gardens after taking a short scenic walk outside the town. The tea rooms overlook the beautifully kept gardens which includes a working model railway and a glass blowing area. Just... More

As part of the White Pass train tour, we motor coached back down the mountain and stopped at Jewell Gardens. Choice of quiches salmon or veggie and then everyone got black bean soup.. Well, I being 1 of 6 liked it. Most didn't. Seriously - bean soup?? It was good but a choice there would have been nice! Nice place.... More

We stopped in here last week while passing through Skagway. At noon there was only a handful of people dining in two large rooms, but the staff said we could not be seated for an hour and a half because they had bus tours coming in from cruise ships. Why can't they keep a table or two open for locals... More

We have eaten at this restaurant more than once this season. While this restaurant is in a beautiful location, the service could use some polishing. The waitstaff could benefit from more appropriate attire for a restaurant /tea such as this. (They were wearing dirty sweatshirts and had dirty hair). This restaurant clearly prefers to serve people coming on tour and... More

Poppies Restaurant at Jewell Gardens is an easy 30 minute walk from the cruise ship docks or a 5-8 minute drive. Afternoon Tea was very reasonable with freshly made treats & locally grown tea. Many of the items on the menu are created using the local ingredients grown at Jewell Gardens. This is a tranquil restaurant overlooking the gardens.

We booked a train ride and further bus trip into the Yukon. Then we headed back to this wonderful little spot outside of town. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was very pleasant. The salad was organic and grown on the premises. We then went on a guided tour of the beautiful grounds and were able to watch some... More

We really enjoyed the tea offered at Jewell Gardens as part of our recent cruise excursion. The whole day was fabulous, but to see the gardens and glass blowing demonstration, and then sit down to a lovely tea with lemonade (with their own chocolate mint) and rose tea was truly wonderful! Everything was delicious!

Wonderfully prepared food. Fresh ingredients from the gardens. I loved it because it was fresh, unusual, and very tasty.

I know teh "organic" part does not sound so good - but it really is. It is a little ways out of downtown - but is a favorite of the locals. Take a tour of the gardens as well

The name of the restaurant is Poppies. They serve nice size portions of what I would call healthy food. I ate a dinner (fresh halibut) and a lunch (roasted veggies and rhubarb chili). The dessert at lunch was a rhubarb begonia bar. Wow! It was very tasty. The service was a mite slow at dinner but the room was packed.... More
