Great sushi restaurant in Kona

We were on the Big Island for a few days and decided to try this sushi restaurant after reading great reviews on tripadvisor - it was also just 5 min. walk from our resort. We loved their appetizer selection such as Salmon Poppers and Poke. We tried their volcano roll and caterpillar roll (both... read more

This is our favorite sushi place on the dry side of the island. Try lunch, a little cheaper than dinner.

We went there for dinner twice in our six day visit and inhaled the awesome food! The miso butterfish appetizer melts in your mouth and every roll that we had was incredible! Try the sake sampler for a nice tasting treat.

This is our second visit to Sushi Shiono and though we loved it last time, we were even more impressed this time. Fabulous sushi--we concentrated on an all sushi meal. We especially liked the Tiger shrimp roll and the Hawaiian Volcano roll, but everything we ordered was outstanding in presentation as well as taste. The real surprise was the bill.... More

Excellent Food, probably one of the best Japanese Restaurant we ever ate. The only bad experience we had was that we made a reservation and once we get there we had to wait almost 15 min to go to our table.

Finding new places in Kona isn't that hard... the turn over here is vicious. Stumbled upon this place heading to Lava Java for brunch. We ordered a bunch of standard nigiri and the chicken teriyaki dinner, see picture for review. It was given 5 stars by my little diner. The teriyaki dinner was very good. The meat was not over... We did the sushi bar chefs choice. Was $50 per person and wish we had time to go back. He made 3 items we have not had before including a toro tar tar that was unbelievable. One of the best Omakasi experiences we have had.

It's hard to rate sushi with numbers. It's either correct or it's not. Shiono's is correct, exactly as you expect it. Survice was fine, tables and environment we're clean. If you're sick of a sweet twist on everything in Hawaii head to Shiono.
