I wanted to try something "new" on my Hawaiian adventure, and my Big Island app recommended this place. Judi was at the big Kava bowl and made the entire experience! She was so friendly, took the time to explain the kava root and history and recommended we (my friend and I), try a bowl "fast", then a chilled kava with... More

This outdoor Kava bar, a hangout for both locals and visitors, serves wonderful Hawaiian pupus (cf., tapas), some of which may be hard to find at other restaurants. The 5-pupu dish I ordered included ahi poke (chunks of marinated raw ahi tuna), opihi (limpets in a delicious saucej), sweet potatoes (purple), tender Kalua pig (barbecued in an underground oven or... Got some dinner to go one night which was fantastic and later happened upon live music over the weekend. Go see Icy Rebel play there on June 14th. She is amazing and they announced it tonight. Kava in coconut bowls was exceptional. Really fun crowd, fantastic music, great Kava = perfect Hawaiian evening.

Best Kava! Great Food! The atmosphere is very relaxing and fun! We were there on a night with live entertainment! I make it a point to stop there everytime I'm on the Big Island! I recommend Kanaka Kava to everyone!

This place specializes in delicious food and kava, a relaxing beverage made from the root of the kava plant. Our guidebook recommended we try this place, and we weren't disappointed! A giant kava bowl takes up a place of honor front-and-center on the bar, and the friendly hippies that work there will cheerfully ladel your coconut-shell full for $5 a... More

Lovely place, very nice welcome, spectacular food, good prices.. what do you need more? I suggest the plate with three samples.. Kalua Pork, octopus and seafood (i added a picture of it)... My favourite was Kalua Pork, I never ate something like that before.. Congratulation to the staff, You were a wonderful surprise during our honeymoon!

We fell in love with Hawaiian food. We anted something local and laid back for dinner and this fit the bill perfectly. Didn't know what to order, so we asked the people at the next table who made recommendations and shared a coconut full of kava.... we had a sample plate which was basically a luau on a plate... poke,... We discovered this place thanks to Lonely place guide, was signed as TOP. And now we know why! This place is perfect to taste the authentic hawaian food. The ingredients are fresh and natural and a kind lady suggests you the better dishes to choose if you are hungry with no idea. We choose 2 dishes with seafoods and 4... More

Serves authentic Hawaiian food, in a take out setting. The few tables there were occupied by locals, all enjoying the kava, which they served by dipping into a big punch bowl on the counter. Really good plates!

Mmmmm....Loved this place. We went for mom's 60th birthday, just her, my brother and I. The vibes were great, everyone was super nice. I get the feeling it's more of a local hangout than for the tourists. I ordered the tofu plate with sweet potatoes and taro. The tofu was cooked brilliantly, with a very delicious teriyaki-garlic sauce. Mom and... More
