This is the place you go when you are in Kailua Kona and you want to have a good homey Japanese lunch or dinner. the place is very simple, but the food is excellent.

We found this restaurant after driving around Kona for dinner on evening on our vacation. This is the best Japanese restaurant we found. The place was fairly empty and we were somewhat skeptical about the "goodness/authenticity" of the food. As it turns out, they had temporarily lost their liquor license which accounted for the small crowd. We ordered the tenzaru... More

This is off the main road, which is nice. The lunch menu was VERY reasonably priced for the quality of the food. Service was a bit slow, but we weren't in a rush.

I was excited to try this place. Everyone was raving about the $30 special with butterfish and opakapaka. We find it tucked away in the back of a strip mall. We come in the afternoon and we are the only customers. We get seated immediately. Half a point for that (even though that is what they should do when we... More

Went for dinner. Fantastic ahi sashimi, eel/cucumber roll. and tempura with cold soba noodles. Seaweed salad was just green salad with some seaweed on top (we thought it would be all seaweed). House Sake inexpensive (Sho Shiku Bi) was not very good so we splurged and bought a 300ml bottle for $27 which was excellent. We sat at one of... More

This place was recommeded by the hotel we were staying at. Bad recommendation. Worst Grilled Saba I ever had. It was overcooked. My friend had Giner Opakapaka and it was very salty. Portions were small and it was pricey. I would not recommend it.

This fish dish was especially good, served in large pieces (skin, bones and all that removed) in a shallow bowl of yummy broth. It was delicious. Also very good, was the Shabu-Shabu - thinly-sliced beef with mushrooms, cabbage and noodle, cooked as wanted in a pan of hot broth on a gas-fired table-cooker. Japanese beers and plum wine nicely complemented... More

This is not specifically a sushi place, but offers also many authentically Japanese cooked fish dishes. It is a bit off the main drag and usually didn't appear that crowded, but we were very pleased with it.

We were the only people there for dinner at 8pm on a weeknight. Food was good, a little pricey. Not all that remarkable of a place.

We ordered a sushi sampler as well as the Sukiyaki to share. Delicious and authentic. I never thought to dip the meat in raw egg after it was cooked, but I will never be able to have Sukiyaki without it! Awesome food!
